Informed Nigerians and public analysts had in the recent past expressed fears that the activities of Boko Haram may result in inter ethnic clashes in the event that it decided to attack institutions in other parts of the country.

The spate of successes recorded by the religious sect against government institutions and the office of the United Nations in Abuja has further fuelled the fear that the sect may decide to strike in other parts of the country.

But the National Coordinator of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Otunba Gani Adams in this interview warned that such attack on any part of Yoruba land would spell doom as OPC would not fold its hands and watch the shedding of blood of innocent Yoruba for no just cause.

According to him, deities of Yoruba land don’t encourage intruders and the OPC as an organization is prepared to defend Yoruba people. When MEND attacked an oil installation in Lagos, he said, he got in touch with leaders of the Niger Delta and a meeting was held within 24 hours. Consequently, OPC reached an agreement with the leaders of MEND and there was no such attack on any part of Yoruba land again.

Adams is worried that no one seems to know the identity of leaders of Boko Haram, which makes it difficult to discuss with their leaders. He is also worried that unlike other militant groups, it has not clearly stated what it stood for. He however expressed the hope that leaders of the group would read papers so that his warning can get to the sect through the media.

Are OPC members on a payroll(the ones who are "protecting" the streets)? If so, how is the money generated?
Re: Gani Adams Warns Boko Haram To Stay Away From Yoruba Land by ezeagu(m): 3:02am On Sep 24, 2011
The best way to do this is to declare a sovereign Yorubaland and place the military at the borders. Of course, this is Nigeria where we'll rather draw things out until they become 10 times worse.
Re: Gani Adams Warns Boko Haram To Stay Away From Yoruba Land by ugosly(m): 8:18am On Sep 24, 2011
It is threats like this that spur the deranged and demented Boko Haram group into carrying out more daring, unreasonable and unjustified attacks on innocent lives.
As much as we appreciate and acknowledge his office, oga Gani Adams, should please tread softly as i believe the sole aim of Boko Haram is to start an ethnic war that will engulf Naija in flames.

what do you expect the man to do?fold his arms and anticipate the next attack?as they say, prevention is better than cure.if he succeeds in getting across to boko haram as he did MEND,he would have solved a major problem.

@stormm

did he defraud you or anyone you know?

Precisely how I intend to reply those 2 adjourn provocateurs. . .OPC would never go into hiding or whatsoever, they just don't react at the slightest impulse. They are calculated, but not as calculated as the Arewas or the Boko Harams, yet it certain the deities of Oduduwalands will protect the Yoruba people and others that dwells in it from the menace of the Boko Harams, I am willing to enlist in OPC, in order to defend Oduduwa land against any external threat rather than die for the sham called Nigeria. In the past whenever they start killing or attacking Yorubas in their land, the Nigerian government turns deaf and blind, when OPC decides to defend their communities that's when the FG begins to shout 'OPC this, OPC that' painting them in such a way it seems OPC started the mayhem as if they desire wanton destruction of lives and property in their home land. To hell with one indivisible Nigeria, after how many years take a glimpse at the state of things in this contraption known as Nigeria. Who knows how much the FG is planning to waste to purchase cakes to celebrate the upcoming Oct. 1st, while PHCN cuts power cables of those who can pay for the electricity that wasn't fully supplied to them, unable to use our 2nd hand electric cookers, we queue at filling stations to buy kerosene at N200/litre and petrol at announced 100% increase in the present amount and when we are upto 150 queued at the gas station, Boko Haram detonates the rigged tanked at gas tank, blowing us all up to Al jana. ODUA REPUBLIC is inevitable and it needs no bloodshed to achieve. Fouck the Abori accord, to hell with a national conference, how can one dialogue with a delegate/leader from a region of that harbors and breed certain inhabitants that are belligerent and hostile to others, lets go to the UN and dissolve the 1914 amalgamation.

If the deities of Yoruba land will protect its people, why are you willing to fight for the land then?. Why not relax and allow your deity to do his/her job?.

My friend I read that and I can categorically tell you that OPC was powerless during the attack and will remain powerless if Boko Haram strikes.

Why can't OPC go to war outside their shores if they have guts?. Why limit their violence to Sagamnu, Ketu, Ebutte Metta and co?. Why not launch a massive comprehensive attack on Boko Haram in the heart of Fulaniland?. Did the Ijaws attack Yorubas in Ijawland?.

You are beginning to sound like the Hausa/Fulani who wake and attack non indigenes in their land but when OPC rattled them in Ketu, they went into hiding. Is that bravery?. All these Yoruba,Igbo and Hausa militants are bunch of wussies. It is only the Ijaws who had the guts to launch attack beyond their shores. The Fulanis do launch attacks outside their shores too and they are 2nd in bravery.

I've always admired gani adams though most opc members are common thugs. The man's role in resistance against the military used to give me hope in the abacha era. Truth is he's to me a more acceptable yoruba leader than all them partisan politicians. He has real grassroot support. In this boko haram issue its unfortunate that there's nothing he can do except attack innocent northerners hustling in the south west, boko haram bombs have killed mainly northerners so there isn't much of a deterrent to be frank

Ibo people and their criminals go destroy YOrubaland. They are known for this, coming in thousands to rob. The have the largest stockpile of ammunition in the whole Naija. I guess the remnant of Bia-failed war. Mind you, December is around the corner and they need to show off in their villages. They know Yorubas are wealthy!!
