LP Senator Elect, victor Umeh In Bribe For Votes Scandal Over Support For Yari by Naijadaily: 8:30am On May 01, 2023
As lobbying for the leadership of the Senate intensifies Labour Party Senator Elect, Victor Umeh has been said to backing the emergence of former Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)
to become Senate President as revealed by a group who alleged that the Anambra central Lawmaker Elect had received financial incentive in return for his support.

Shedding more light the group under the auspices of Frontiers of Ethnic Nationalities for United Nigeria (FENUN), accused the former Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance Party of Working against the interest of the Southeast in producing the next President in order to achieve his personal interest.

With the assurance of mobilizing LP Senators elect and other opposition Senators elect, the group according to statement by its National Coordinator, Mr. Charles Uwakwe said that the Umeh convinced the former Zamfara Governor to part with the sum of One Million Dollars to execute the task.

The group also alleged that Umeh was working to also see the emergence of the former Governor's loyalist who also won election at the House of Representatives to become Speaker of the green Chambers, the group however did not disclose the name of the person.

The group lamented that at a time when the majority of Nigerians were clamouring for the emergence of a South East Senate President, Victor Umeh from the Southeast region was working against their interest for personal gains.

Buttressing their allegations the group linked their claims to the revelations recently published in the media about a meeting between a Senator and elected Senators when the sum of $10, 000 was allegedly shared with the 70 Senators.

The group gathered from a reliable source that some of the lawmakers jostling for the Senate Presidency had started using money to get the support of some of the newly elected members of the Upper Chamber.

At a Press briefing held in Abuja the group revealed that at a meeting conveyed which had in attendance some northern elites , Yari and his House of Representatives protege, Umeh allayed fears of Yari over public reactions that may arise if another Muslim Senate President emerges.

Umeh who claimed to be representing the Labour Party elected Lawmakers ,promised to use his influence in the Catholic Church in his home state Anambra to Assemble six Catholic Bishops from the six Geo-political zones who would throw their weight behind Yari who will in turn reward the clerics financially.

While warning against such moves, the group called the attention of the Labour Party Leadership and asked the anti-graft agencies to thoroughly investigate the alleged bribery allegation.

The statement read partly; "After painstaking investigation it has come to our notice that a ranking Senator from the Southeast region in person of Victor Umeh was working against the interest of the Igbos for his personal gain.

"Our investigation reveals that Umeh received One Million dollars from Senator Yari, a Senator Elect from Zamfara State and former Governor of the same state on behalf of LABOUR Party National Assembly elected members for supporting him to be senate president and also supporting his candidate for speaker House of Representatives.

"The House of reps member from Zamfara who was present in the conversation had asked Umeh how Nigerians will react to Muslim being a Senate President considering the dust the Muslim/Muslim APC presidential ticket raised in the country, Victor Umeh simply said that he will arrange for 6 Catholic bishops each from one zone and Senator Yari should just give them money and he will do the needful.

"Umeh told Yari that the public will only express outcry for a short while and it will settle afterwards. He advised Senator Yari to prepare at least to give each Catholic Bishop 300k dollars for them to take care of their key priests. Victor Umeh claimed that his colleagues in the LABOUR party appointed him to negotiate for them to avoid exposure.

Former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari was declared the winner of Zamfara West Senatorial in the Saturday 25th February polls.

INEC's The Collation Officer for Zamfara West, Professor Rufus Teniola of the Federal University Gusau, declared All Progressive Congress (APC) Abdulaziz Yari winner with a total of 147,346 to defeat his closest rival Bello S. Fagon of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)who polled 55,83 votes.
