This decision ought to have been taken long before now. Our people can't cope with another cancerous causing food coupled with poverty issues we are still grappling with at the moment. Our health is the only wealth we have and as such we must guard it jealously.

What a shame.

What a big disgrace. Indomie is banned, yet it commands such volume of market in Nigeria? How has it been possible? And the yeye people have not immediately moved in to take the brand and other such dangerous brands off our markets?

Shame on our leaders.

Re: NAFDAC To Test Indomie Noodles, Says Importation Already Banned by BlueRayDick: 4:28pm On May 01, 2023
This post is not self-explanatory ; it takes a discerning mind to actually understand what message the author of the news article was trying to pass across .

So Indomie being made in Malaysia and Taiwan was found to be containing a cancer causing chemical and it has been banned in that country .

Now NAFDAC is saying they don’t allow people import indomie; instead the indomie being sold in Nigeria are all made in Nigeria except anybody smuggled the “abroad “ own into the country .

To be on the safer side, NAFDAC wants to sample the indomie being made and consumed in Nigeria; to be sure ours does not have the same cancer causing chemical like Malaysia’s and Taiwan’s .

They said it was already banned. Yet indomie is sold every where even ShopRite. Does ban has another meaning

That is the foreign Indomie noodles.

Shoprite Nigeria sells made in Nigeria indomie noodles . (Not everything in Shoprite is imported).

When Indomie arrived in Nigeria in 1990, it was originally imported. Some ten years later, most of it was made in Nigeria, if not all.

We Moved From The Moorings Of Whole, Good Foods To Those Of Junk, Fast And Instantaneously-Gratifying Foods

Noodles, is one of the worst foods in the world. A very bad refined food, which has very little in the way of nutrients. And, along side this, there are so many other junk nonsense Nigerians consume as foods.

I believe it's one of the leading causes of malnutrition, although, not a direct cause of it. But a culprit whichever way you look at it.

I know it's also a contributory factor of high blood pressure, because each pack has well over 1500 mg of sodium, which is like the total recommended ratio.

The government should look critically into the food and nutrition sector with a view to checking such anomalies.

Read the article again.

What is banned is the Indomie noodles made overseas (Indomie noodles originate from Indonesia)

(Off topic, but a lot of products we make here are also made abroad eg Milo and Guinness.)

Indomie noodles made in Nigeria have not been banned.

The foreign made indomie noodles are what is banned.

Indomie sold in this country is made in Nigeria. Has been for nearly 2 decades.

NAFDAC, just like its home country, is reactive not proactive to matters. Nothing concern me. This reminds me of the whole Indomie-contains-dangerous-fertilizers stories from back in the day. Those got debunked and ignored fast.

NAFDAC must carry out thorough checks on it as the stories emanating from Malaysia is not encouraging that indomies consumption is causing cancer. I don't think there's any home that the children are not eating this at least thrice in a week in Nigeria. We don't want any story that touches the heart biko!

In this case, since we weren't importing Indomie from anywhere, including the countries where the issue broke forth, they did not need to react as you think.

NAFDAC are just doing eye service, like you said the noodles consumed in Nigeria are local brands manufactured in nigeria.so, what's our concern with foreign brand.
Must they be pushed before they do their work.
