Home Opinion OPINION: LAGOS AS THE MOST VIABLE STATE MAY SECEDE

Nna, what types of insults are these? Insults, what do you mean by insults? Please stop jare!

Lagos State is the richest in the whole of Nigeria and that has been proven many times. If you do not believe it, ask Obasanjo that tried to starve Lagos State during his authoritarian civilian rule. Lagos simply ignored him and moved on. What is surprising is that Lagos did not hijack all the taxes Federal Government collected in Lagos during that time, a tit for tat. Believe heaven and earth, if Lagos had the power, Obasanjo could have come back begging on his knees.

I see, so those are the insults Lagosians felt. If that was all, we could have kissed and made up. What bothered many Lagosians is why every little group in Nigeria, that cannot live within their means keeps on threatening the whole country that they want to secede. We keep on hearing about secession in the North and South everyday. We have looked into their leaking or creative accounting; we are still looking for just one of them that can be viable. Or proven viable before.

There are some Southern states that get special derivations from the Federal Government because of the amount of natural resources they produce. The last we heard, some of them are struggling to pay workers’ salary. It just does not make sense. The more money they get from natural resources, the more they want. Even if all the money is given to them, the fear is it will be going to the same leaking basket. How did we live before and how are we going to after oil.

Hmm.
Lagos' revenue is from its ports and companies.
If it secedes, other ports would takeover. Companies will relocate to Nigeria and Lagos will die a natural death. It doesn't have enough landmass and resources for sustainable economic growth. Lagos' economic prosperity is because it serves Nigeria.

Some of us on this site are so obsessed with secession.

Yet, ask them about who their local government chairman is, or what their political and economic philosophy is, and you draw a blank,

Nigeria cannot break up because Nigeria is a resource dependent entity. Any break up will lead to war and more war over resources. We cannot cleanly break up also because there are over 200-300 tribes in this country, and each one of them wants to be independent.

The day Lagos fully secedes from 'one Nigeria', as is, will be the day its economic and social decline will start! That being said, it could still stand a chance of thriving if the present crop of bigoted and hateful individuals running and controlling its affairs are sent back to their respective states! With them in charge, you can be rest assured of the states decline as no sensible person would want to come and live/invest in a city state ran by such a bigoted and hateful lot! With them gone, and the true indigenes of Lagos taking over and welcoming all, no matter your race or creed, Lagos stands the chance of becoming the Monaco of West and Central Africa!

Not exactly so.

Lagos seceding and being independent will be the best for them. They will become an entreport for most of West Africa. They will be able to send back invaders both from North, West and East. By so doing, retain only the upper and middle class.

The indigenes of Lagos are suffering while outsiders continue to reap massively from their land. Could you believe that since 1999, no indigene of Lagos has ruled the state!

If Hong Kong and Singapore can stand alone as successful nations, then Lagos too can!

The indigenes of Lagos are too docile for their own good. How do you explain that a notorious criminal came all the way from Osun state and pocketed their state?!

The criminal even had the guts to desecrete their lands by trying to install a common agbero as traditional ruler in Oshodi. These same invaders from outside are now trying to destroy their state by by introducing toxic bigotry and state capture.

The state will decline drastically if the indigenes don't wake up and rule their state by themselves.

The so-called indigenes are not serious. They didn't even bother to put up a fight when Yorubas from other states ridiculed one of them from one of the most prominent families in the last elections.

I think Tinubu has completely pocketed them.
