Appeal Court Upholds Maina’s Eight-year Sentence For N2.1bn Fraud by References1: 6:49pm On May 05, 2023
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the conviction and eight-year sentence imposed on the former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina for laundering about N2.1billion.

In a judgment on Friday, a three-member panel of the court unanimously affirmed the November 8, 2021 judgment given by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abija, convicting and sentencing Maina.

Justice Justice Elfreda Williams-Daudu, in the lead judgment also affirmed the various interlocutory rulings delivered in the course of the trial at the Federal High Court, which Maina appealed against.

Justice Elfreda Oluwayemisi Williams-Dawodu, who resolved the two issues, identified for determination, against Maina, held that he was not denied fair hearing by the trial court and that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Eight years is too small for the nincompoop mhen. People like him should be sentences to life imprisonment or at least fifty years in jail. The judicial system of this country is too lenient on politicians, if na cow person steal now, na lengthy jail the person go dey or even jungle justice.

Looting or defrauding people of their retirement benefits is worse that murder. Just pray you don't lose all you've worked for in your youth to a fraudster.

So this case still drags on? And eight years only?? The leniency of sentence is injustice in itself.

I'd suggest an extension of time for every frivolous appeal by corruptly dubious politicians/civil servants.
