Good Girl:

It's a bit on the extreme with Nigerians though. I've asked this before on other threads; what obsession do you Nigerians have with people's skin complexions? Am an African and I come from a society where we have people of all skin tones just like Nigerians, but for people to just sit down and waste away talking about why dark skin is better than light skin, why does Peter Okoye prefer light-skinned females, celebrities who bleach, etc is a bit too much on this forum if you ask me. This also includes the Nigerians that I have interacted with over the years, including some who are my friends! Nigerians are so colour-struck it's not amusing. Almost all the comparisons made on this forum are motivated by skin tone; Beyonce vs Kelly Rowland, Omotola vs Genevieve, Tonto Dike vs Mercy Johnson, Halle Berry vs Genevieve, Gabrielle Union vs Halle Berry, Nadia Buari vs Jackie Appiah. All these comparisons are deliberate attempts by insecure individuals to pitch one skin tone against another and to kill the confidence of people of a certain skin tone.

Everything on this forum is just about skin tone. Even the literature/books boards are not spared. A poster may just comment on how talented and intelligent Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is and then follows a comment like ". . . I also like the fact that she has a beautiful skin tone and she's not even light-skinned but successful. . . .". I mean WTF? Must it keep popping up on every thread? Same with the political board. Something is wrong somewhere I swear. . . .!! angry

@ topic, I have always looooooved Jill Scott. I so totally love her look below.

Yep, its pathetic! What we should be celebrating and boasting about (our various lovely tones), we use as a means to prove superiority in terms of beauty. Little wonder how the white man has gotten us all screwed up in the head while he sits back and laughs at us.

Bloody unbelievable.

Yeah jill scott is beautiful her look fits her

when it comes to what you said about complexion well I don't think it is just Nigerians, other blacks of african cultures(more with french speaking african countries) do it and it's even worse with black diasporians(go and check out what they say in Africans american forums and you'll think this site is a picnic) from my experience though blacks are not the only ones that do it Indians and Arabs also have these issues, they are just aren't vocal as much about it BUT the group that has tooken it to the extreme is actually Latin America, you need to see what they do to black Hispanics & Black Brazilians(you'll be thanking God you are African); to a extent that some black Hispanics don't even like being called black. I have many indian female friends and I hear this from them as well. people just need to accept that this complexion issue is a result of what colonization has done to us. We are human and not immune to negative effects of colonization, some places in the world dealt with it better then others

Here are videos of what Blacks are going through in Latin America, which is minor in Africa. So I thank God it isn't as strong in Africa compared to other parts of the world BUT I won't excuse that it exist in Africa though so to me Africans need to start training their children about these issues so these negative effects of colonization can slowly start to be non-existent in african communities:

Obviously kenyanlady is off her meds every now and then.

Dont know whats with some hookers here. When they need nigerian booty calls or husband they dont notice "coarse" hair but anytime they see black women they suddenly remember their own hair is different.

I RECOMMEND EVERYBODY HERE ON THIS THREAD TO WATCH "BLACK IN LATIN AMERICA" because the issues expressed here on this thread by africans in Africa is far minuet compared to what goes on to blacks in Latin America:

Haiti/Dominica Republic

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9j4BoZH0rA

Brazil

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gh7c46U5hhY

Cuba

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oooVDI3w9o

Mexico/Peru

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIzHIRCBtdE

Black africans should be happy that at least we are not second class citizens(except south africa to a extent) in our own lands because of our color is black and we are negroid. At least our black pride intertwined with our culture is strong with africans compared to other parts of the world. You would never see a Mercy Johnson in a Black Hollywood movie or showcased or even shown to the public her presence in Black Latin american or Caribbean communities but in Africa we see many like her shown, so please people slow your role. Remember we are africans and be grateful to God that we don't deal with some of the issues that effect some black Diasporians today. We have other issues to deal with.

my solution I have always promised myself is when I have kids this is going to be trained into their heads, this is how we start to fight this nonsense by training the next generation of black africans ( your kids, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and etc) against it not start hurling insults it doesn't solve anything for blacks, especially africans. Other races instill their racial pride into their children, blacks should start doing the same it's that simple

After watching this video I have more respect for Black Caribbeans/ Black Latin americans & I just thank God I'm Nigerian(Yoruba), Black, & african

Hey Sister,

Thanks for these documentaries. I actually watched all of them. I'm intrigued to discover the strong presence of Yoruba culture in Brazil. I intend on visiting Brazil, Dominican Republic really soon, so when I do, I will be sure to share my experience. Would love to meet and talk to my black brothers/sisters from these countries too.

Try being realistic.  HOA hair are NOT like that on average. Similar to all Africans they have either corse or curly hair, not straight hair.  I have never met a HOA with straight hair unless it's tracks, straightened or relaxed. Also some of the women posted do not even look like your average HOA.

This is the normal type of hair in HOA

I noticed.  In all this HOA inspired threads in NL, the girls are on average very light skin, straight hair, etc. but yet I've met more dark skin HOA than light skin HOA especially when concerning Somalis.   I sometimes wonder if they really this unrealistic but then I remember they are Africans.   Colonization Fu**ed up our views on things; we always try to associate ourselves to anything or anyone looking or resembling white.  The lighter someone is, the prettier we view them.

This is typical of natural HOA hair

When you wrote this did it make sense to you?  I, a male, am jealous of females for having long hair  Your reply is not even worthy of criticism so I'm leaving it there.  So all the HOAs, both males and females, I meet every day are not real representation of HOA is that right?
Pathetic!!!!  Inferiority complex is not attractive on females.

The topic is natural hair.  My definition of natural is females without relaxer, or fake hair.  Her pictures excluding the ones with actual natural is best fit for African beauty thread as oppose to this one.  I disagree with individuals posting females with relaxed or fake hair; it defeats the purpose of this thread.   Kenyanlady is not the only one guilty of this but she is the only one constantly doing it in all her post.

This is my definition of Natural and beautiful just like a black woman should be
