If the prisoner should be profiled according to state and then take responsibility in feeding them or send them feeding allowance, state like Anambra may go bankrupt.
They will not go bankrupt. Because all the judges would be mandated to speedy trials and offenders and convicted would be fined heavily to generate more funds .

have u ever checked the revenue sharing formula? Why is there so much power and resources at the centre? The resources are so much that a person can afford to steal one hundred billion naira which is more than the budget of some states in Nigeria. The level of mismanagement and thievery at the centre is too much, the federal govt is transferring their responsibilities to states because it feels it has less resources, which is obviously false.

School dem. Fg collects 58% of total revenue while states and lg share 42%.

The federal govt should also increase the monthly allocations to states or allow states control their God given resources so that they can take care of their responsibilities.

That is a commendable plan. Also, I wish those in authority can hear me, one very big fraud that happens in our country is cooking in prison yard. FG budgets good money for inmates feeding but the kind/quality of food been served to inmates even a local Nigeria dog can't eat the food, prison top officials embezzle inmates feeding money. i'd suggest that stipends be paid to inmates directly and cooking should stop forthwith. Why budget good money and rubbish be served to inmates Also state government should situp, wake up to their responsibility, Nigeria needs more prison to mitigate congestion challenge.

The states are actually in a better position to feed the prisoners. When this happens, non indigenes who commit crimes in other states can be convicted and deportedly shipped to their own states to serve their sentences. You can not abandon your job as parents and think other states should keep feeding your wayward children by other states.

They should also allow states to control their resources. You take away state's money and evade responsibility. It won't work.

How is it wickedness if prisons are in the concurrent list and 90% of inmates are state law offenders? If you want states to have more taxing powers that fair.
but revenue sources that should ordinarily belong to the state has been cornered by the federal govt, so where will the states get the money from?

They should be taken to farm to grow their food.....they committed crime and their punishment should not be limited to confinement and eating of free food from our tax payers money They should also work to feed not only themselves but also law abiden citizens.

Bunch of rogues, state to feed their inmates in federal government prisons - please, throw away that correctional euphemism. Policing, prison service and justice systems in Nigeria are strange arrangements. If states have their independent judicial systems, why denying them their own police and prison services? Frauds can never go straight! No state should feed any inmates in federal prisons, they should rather demand their right to having their own police and prison services.

By this logic, should taxes paid by non-indigenes be repatriated to their home state too?

I like this.

Many alleged offenders are in prison for even more than five, ten years without proper prosecution.
You will find people in prison for many years than the number of years assigned to the alleged crime he was accused of.

States should be ready to shoulder their responsibility.
They should feed their inmates.
But I think states inmates would die of hunger like how animals are dying in zoos out of hunger.
State have no option except to free many of them.

Furthermore, by January 1, 2024, the Federal Government will stop feeding state inmates kept in federal facilities. State governments must now start budgeting for feeding their inmates in federal facilities while we wait for them to build their own facilities

Ahhh
Wahala de oo
State prisoners go begin suffer from next year.
I know many state governments will not make budgetary provisions for this.

There are countries where some criminal minded persons see prisons as holiday resort.
They go there repeatedly. Because the jail term are few months to few years.

They go there to catch some cool moments. Excellent foods better than what you eat at home, good sleeping facilities etc.

Prisoner that wish to go home can go home quickly by pretending to be very good prisoner. They allow you to go home as "reformed" person.
That why murderers keep killing people, go to prison and got released after two, three years. Then kill again. Then got released, and the circus continue.

I met a nigerian that has been in prison in four european countries for ten years all together.
It was fun for him.

Time to shed some weights.

The Nigerian federal government is carrying too much load than it can bear. Imagine a institutionally weak government carry 66 items on the exclusive list.

Not even the US federal government Carrie’s such yeye loads. This is what make our presidents dictatorial, authoritative and territorial.

Does the US federal arm control resources and reshare states resources according who dominates the FG?
You argument is clearly flawed and gives you as a regular attack dog and party agent who supports anything the govt does under your favorite party.

America has a robust federal system that's far more reasonable and balanced unlike ours where there are ministries for resource of the minorities but non resource specific ministries for other major regions. The FG isn't doing enough considering they have the lion share of the money in the system.
