That is how she will also behave when she marry. They take everything for granted and will be trying to play victim

Since I found the deep basics to sports trading, I perfected my moves and that was the end of having a paid job.

I now try buying any available genuine property around for real estate investments.

There's something called a warning which is what you could have told her. Try this stunt in a developed world and watch her sue you.

Developed world have no room for complacency or irresponsibility. And there is always a probation period for which you are to show you can abide by company policies ,regulations and fitness for the job. And above all , there are terms and conditions for which you can be fired as Long as you don't meet standards. Lateness , non challant, and lackadaisical application to work one amongst many reasons to sack you.

Within 5 days of resuming work? 🤔

Na Op make mistake 1st, to start with.

Someone who stays 15minutes away from work place, coming 2hours late to an interview; and you still took her?

And for those saying probably the salary is meager, that’s why she behaved the way she did; what happened to not resuming? 🤔😏

Op drag her comot from house to resume the job? 🤧

It doesn't matter how many days she worked - the company and herself are bound by the letter of employment and the company handbook. She is still under probation so maybe she can be dismissed summarily but op should ensure he follows the process.

There are crazy people out there who don't have shame and will take employers to court on the flimsiest of reasons. Their plan isn't to win, just self publicity and hostage taking. After 5 adjournments and a couple of missed meetings op will realize the wisdom in what I have said. She has nothing to lose save for a barter deal with an amorous lawyer. smiley

[You saw the red flag yet you went ahead to hire her, maybe because of the female folk etc. it only shows you were not thorough in your assessment. Other qualify candidate may have come for this interview but you gettison them cause of your desire. Serve you right. Waist company resources to start the process again!
quote author=EmekaStanley post=123301673]I hired a lady last week Monday and fired her on Friday same week. I concluded she was not ready yet.

This lady came almost 2 hours late for interview without communicating her reason. If she was going to be late, she should inform the interviewer. Red flag.

I ignored that and decided to proceed with the interview. I decided not to conclude on her based on the interview outcome. I love giving people chances.

I offered her the job, she was excited. She was sent an offer letter which she accepted. On resumption date, this lady came late for work. First day at work. I was like 'Is this 24 year old lady innocently naïve or what?".

On Friday last week, this lady came to work by 10.55am. He work time is 8.00am, and she is an office admin. I was on my seat and sighted her walking in, I had to call her and told her to go back home, and that was it.

By the way, she lives like 15 minutes away from the office, and her route is always against traffic.

I wouldn't know when she resumed from Tuesday to Thursday because I came quite late on those days due to field engagements. When I resumed, I met her sleeping twice. After that, she abandoned her work and stepped out to answer a phone call for almost 1 hour.

My experience with this lady made me understand that a lot of people looking for work are not ready for/to work.

Sue him after she breached contract?

Was the resumption time stated in her employment letter?

Was the consequence for lateness also stated?

The employer is fully justified

Story of life. Same way I asked my new sales rep to go back home last week Friday.

Her resumption time is 8am. She came 12pm saying it was raining and no umbrella.

Meanwhile her other colleagues already resumed 8.30am after the rain subsided

Normally n an office setting, when you are feeling sleepy, you stand up and walk around. This one, She just put her head down and started sleeping.

You suppose understand say she dey use your job for side hustle, her main job na for night.
How person go come office 2 hrs after normal resumption time & still be sleeping on duty.
The call she go receive for almost 1hrs na to bargain with her client for the night session.
Sometimes, some pple Don't reserve a second chance.

There is something called probation in the developed world whereby you can be fired within 90 days of being employed...... just like that.
In an interview one should be at their best ... first impression is everything . If she was late .... and did not find it necessary to at least say why she was late that alone should tell a lot about her home training and things can only get worse. So OP ... why she and not others? .... if you describe her and what she wore we may understand why you tried so hard with her.

Am just curious 'what was the outcome of the interview ' I decided not to conclude on her based on the interview outcome.'

from my personal experience it seems a lot of young graduates have high expectations(rightly so) -one actually told me that she wouldn't take a job that pays less than 300k/month.

I swear I did not see your quote before I responded to him, developed world that they pay you hourly why would anyone even be an hour late?

Any boss that knows what his job is, should fire any staff that shows up an hour late first day on the job, unless perhaps it’s government job in Nigeria, and that’s why they are not productive .

there is what we PROBATION period....a well structured company will not sack her immediately but they will access her during her probation period and finally decides on the end of probation. Also in a well structured firm, there is also what we call EMPLOYER-EMPLOYEE RELATIONSHIP. this will also make you as an employer study your staff both on the job and off the job as well as knowing in details some off their personal issues affecting their work productivity.
In the case of this girl you sack, she is supposed to be given a written query and finally a warning before being fired.
