The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has resumed oil exploration in the Lake Chad Basin in Borno state, 6 years after it was stopped.

Officials of the NNPC Energy Service Ltd (ENSERV) said the project is being done under NNPC Frontier Exploration Service for the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC.

Exploration commenced in 1976 and continued until 1996 with the processing of 33,000km of 2D Seismic data which identified three prospective sub-basins (Gubio, Maiduguri & Baga/Lake Area).

From this, two wells (Wadi-1 & Kinasar-1) recorded presence of noncommercial gas. Between 2008 and 2018, NNPC processed 1,962.20km2 of 3D Seismic data; in 2014, it suspended the Seismic Acquisition Operations due to insurgency. NNPC in July 2017 also announced the halt of the exploration activities after some workers recorded insurgency attacks.

Daily Trust reported that NNPC completed the security risk assessment to resume operations in 2022 to explore the Wadi-B well. Executive Director, Frontier Exploration Services at NNPC, Mukhtar Zanna, said they will be using ACME Rig 5 to drill 14,000 feet into the Wadi-B well to get oil and associated gas.

President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to join the ceremony virtually and spud-in the Wadi-B oil well drilling in Tuba community , Jere Local Government Area.

There is oil in Edda fields, Ebonyi state. Donโ€™t know why NNPCL and FG have not swung into action to explore and tap it.

Borno will join the south southern and south eastern states as oil producing state!

When we say there is oil in the North, some people will argue otherwise!

An avenue to upgrade the looting spree using this White elephant project as a platform.

This small money that we're expecting Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu to save for Nigeria from the suspension of the fraudulent subsidy scheme, since Dangote Refinery is coming on board.. I'm sure they're creating this one as an avenue to siphon it.

Well, it seems like the NNPC is taking their love for treasure hunting a bit too literally. Exploring oil in Borno? Really? I guess they're hoping to strike gold (or should I say "black gold" ) in the most unexpected places. I can already see their new slogan: "NNPC: Turning sand into slippery surprises!" Good luck finding those oil derricks amidst the sand dunes, guys!

Lmao how u wan use sale this oil even if you see oil

We all know there is oil in lake chad basin but how much oil

Would it be worth construction of oil pipeline from brono to Calabar?

Or u want to send it to Kaduna and used the refinery pipeline ? ...let's assume that is 750km minimum ...it would cost minimum or 750million dollars to build

Nigeria oil production cost is already 27 dollars so let's say brono oil would be 37 dollars minimum

So if oil sales at 70 dollars profit is 33 dollars ...Nigeria gets 55% of that ...the production company gets 45% from which they still pay tax ..say they make 12 dollars profit

It needs minimum of 500 million dollars for that well to start to production ...plus 750 million
1.250 billion dollars ...that means they need 120 million barrels to break even can that be achieved in 5 years ...u need to pump 70k to 100k BPD for 5 years ....so does brono have such oil ?
