PERCEIVED FUEL SUBSIDY REMOVAL

In order to prevent or alleviate potential hardship on citizens, the government must take proactive measures among which is suggested below:

1.While the government is yet to declare total removal of subsidy, the government should send the task force across the country to check the activities of those petrol marketers that have started hoarding the petrol product.

2. Before the announcement of total removal of fuel subsidy, the government should make sure that they provide transportation services at a reduced price. The government should procure buses to be operated at a reduced price by the government at all tiers of government. This transportation services should be made available to ply within town, towns to towns and interstates.

3. Before total removal of petrol subsidy, the government should ensure that the rail system that have been revived by the last administration is working at maximum capacity and at a reduced price.

4. Before the government should consider total removal of petrol subsidy, the government should ensure that it make water transport vessels available for the riverine parts of country that uses water means of transportation.

5. The government should also partner with Dangote refinery to make sure that preference is given to local purchase of the petrol product.

I hope these suggestions will assist the government to profer solutions to issue of subsidy removal that if not properly handled, it may create bad impression in the minds of citizens.

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
