In my opinion, removal of fuel subsidy is good but Nigeria still have a long way to go.

Apart from transportation, what makes us depend so much on fuel is poor power supply. Mention one company, organization, business or program that wants to run a project without having a standby generator

In Nigeria we don't have electric trains to transport our workers!
We don't even have stable electricity.
At one point, only Yemen (a worn torn country) was ahead of Nigeria in terms of epileptic power supply.
You can't host any event (religious or circular) without having a standby Gen because NEPA will surely disappoint.

Now that price of fuel has now doubled, to use Gen is another thing entirely.
No stable electricity to work and fuel is untouchable .

Although removal of subsidy is good, but we still have a long way to go.

Once subsidy is removed,

The three areas goverment really need to work on is how to

>Empower state governments subsidize public transportation in their various states.

>Ensure Electricity supply improve

>And raise minimum wage to about 60 to 80k for government workers.

first of all, Government can easily subsidize public transportation because some state governments were offering free public transportation during Election period. So it can be done.

State government will be given special allocation by the federal government to the tune of 1 to 2 bn to subsidize public transportation depending on the revenue sharing formula.

Secondly, government can easily raise minimum wage.

Thirdly, goverment will encourage state governments to invest in independent Power generation to help cover up the Power generation shortage in their states under the new regulatory regime signed by Buhari before he left office.

Note that only poor people will benefit from all these new form of subsidy and it will be cheaper and productive.

They will start with one or two good paper initiative then loot the subsidy proceeds. after that, they will go after forex subsidy, education subsidy and then tax increase. All these will be interjected by flashy and bogus PPP long term looting projects then they will finish it of with more tax.

I really agree with you. But a lot of big goons are cashing out at the expense of poor Nigerians ,they benefit more from fuel subsidy than the average Nigerian . Peter Obi himself said fuel subsidy is an organized crime
