I believe there are no children on this platform. When you are born in Nigeria, and you have not been outside the country before, you will assume the pollution and noise from the generator is normal. You will praise NEPA for giving electricity 12 hours per day. Japa is not all about money. Is more than money; it is beyond money. It involves access to good medical care, safety, and quality education for kids. It is the easiest route to secure your children's future. Even MC Oluomo, with no university education, was wise enough to send his children abroad. Today the children are US citizens. Above all, having a second passport is one of the ultimate goals . Only in Nigeria, perhaps some African countries, do people pray for visa approval; some even go mountains. The fact that people pray & fast for visa approval shows that you need a second passport. You don't need millions to Japa. If you are serious about traveling, create time to use Google and search for schools in Europe with low tuition fees, 1k- 2k euros per year with funding opportunities ( masters & Ph.D.). Apply by yourself. You don't need an agent to do these things. Apply to European countries. From these European counties, you can relocate quickly to Canada or USA if you wish to 5 Likes |

kushe: It's always interesting and frankly amusing to read views like yours. It's actually what brought me to Nairaland. 1) My answer to all you have said is money doesn't save anyone from an inferiority complex. Well, my Igbo people say there's no need to argue about wrestling prowess when there's plenty of ground available for a match. My riposte - if Nigerians living in Nigeria believe they're equal or better than Anglo-Western peoples or their governments, prove it by building countries so good that few Nigerians will ever think of migrating out. It's a very simple thing. We wait...😔 And no Nigerian or Black African Christian or Muslim should be saying ANYTHING about inferiority complex. Really, do you guys have any self awareness at all? 2) Go to Peru,Argentina,Spain and see how the upper class in supposed not so developed countries think and behave. Hmmm, Argentina I know a bit about their economy. They're bankrupt and inflation there is running at over 100%. In general, they have a government with a radical socialist ideology, similar to Nigeria's APC. Go read the news for yourself. There's also a growing wave of migration from Argentina to Spain and Europe in general. Here's a sample - https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/argentinas-economy-teeters-edge-deeper-crisis-market-anxiety-grows-2023-04-21/ https://www.google.com/search?q=argentina+economic+problems&rlz=1C1NDCM_enUS837US837&oq=argentina+economic+problems&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i22i30l9.5150j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&bshm=nce/1 3) We live and think abroad and never ever get integrated into our adopted societies. Every single large immigrant community goes through this stage. That's why insular ethnic neighborhoods exist in major USA cities, such as Little Italy and Chinatowns. The later born-in-USA generations eventually mix in with the rest of mainstream America. Nothing new. It's a sacrifice made for the prosperity of their progeny. 4) No matter how much money you get for naija,in one central park west building you would become irrelevant with several occupants having either more money or clout than you. I lived in Nigeria as a fairly well to do person. Do you mean achieving celebrity status or something? Because lots of well to do people I know in Nigeria earning hundreds of thousands of dollars per year were pretty much as irrelevant unless they're in politics or something like that. As for the bit about living in a building, anyone can own land in the USA but NOBODY can ever own land in Nigeria - that the LAW, your Governor has the power to take over your building at ANY TIME. So much for 1st class citizenship. 5) Nigerians don't understand the culture abroad, they just think they do. This culture thing always makes me laugh. Next they will say you can't eat good Nigerian food in USA. Nigerian Christians and Muslims arguing CULTURE... I've lived in the USA for over 30 years so speaking for myself, I understand the culture very well, at least here in North Carolina. Anyone else here for even 10 years will get the essentials of it - work hard, obey the law, be friendly and helpful in the community, invest for the future of your family if you want to have one. What else is there? And I know Nigerian culture very well too, so I think I'm in a good position to know which one works well for me....and for most people like me. Sincerely wishing you all the best of Good Luck. Now these comments below deserve honorable mention, they're pure Nigeriana Nefort: Quintopia: What else is there to say? kushe: I think I'm well past sojourner. I hardly visit Nigeria. Less stress, more time to grow. There's more interesting places to vacation. Indeed I have asked White Americans what's their ancestral background...it happens to most Americans all the time as the nation has gotten more diverse. I remember when it started dawning on me that many White Americans around me are 2nd generation children of immigrants from Poland, Germany, Canada, Yugoslavia, Ireland and what not. Many of their parents only came to the USA in the 1960's and 1970s. It's part of getting CULTURALLY AWARE, you learn when you've been here a long time. Anyway rest assured the USA has been an excellent choice for me. I wish you all the best. Cheers. 1 Like 1 Share |

Bouncingbabyboy: In Austria, I have witnessed where government doctors came to treat patients more than 3 times. Not that they were first responders o (ambulances). I mean real doctors after ambulances had come to stabilize patients, they later on send doctors within 2 hours. You can book appointment to see a doctor here online and the next day you are in doctor’s clinic or hospital. Europe is better than the US and Canada, combined but European countries only do not have the kind of money the US and Canada have. 2 Likes 1 Share |

MeineMutter: Are you sure? The most practical measure would be migration patterns. I'm going to look up the data. https://mises.org/wire/3-times-many-europeans-move-us-other-way-around In my own limited personal data set, I know at least 12 Africans who've migrated to the USA from UK, Italy, France and Germany. I only know 3 Africans who left the USA. Two to Canada and one to UK. The 2 in Canada returned after about 5 years. So what's YOUR basis of measurement? I just added a link with plausibly good stats. It looks like Europeans love migrating to the USA |

kushe: You have a good point 👍🏾 . The question then is, what are the PROBABILITIES for the evolution of a productive and developed Nigeria? It's important to ask because we've been long term witnesses to the eternal POTENTIALS of Nigeria. I know EXACTLY why I lost my enthusiasm for Nigeria. It was Occupy Nigeria in Jan 2012. I've preached about this ad nauseum. Thankfully someone like David Hundeyin recognizes the inflection point that was.... https://twitter.com/DavidHundeyin/status/1663494884622233602 The rejection of the governments deregulation policy at that time was the zenith of ignorance and collective self harm. That was when I finally realized that something is wrong with THE NIGERIAN. So I packed up and left the country. If I was going to ever rethink my decision, the elections of 2015 made it irrevocable. A solid electoral majority of Nigerians voted for the leaders of a political party that told them FUEL SUBSIDY DOESN'T EXIST. Muhammadu Buhari, a former President and Petroleum Minister, actually campaigned on that slogan and won! Prof Tam David West another former Petroleum Minister also said there's nothing like subsidy! Bola Tinubu actually led the Ojota protests and is now President! And true to the predictions of Goodluck Jonathan, the fuel subsidy bankrupted Nigeria. President Buhari himself was forced to admit exactly that in his last budget speech. So tell me, do you think the populace that has been so easily deceived has any reservoir of intellect that can develop Nigeria? As a purely probabilistic calculation, it seems unlikely. That's just the measured truth, it has nothing to do with my political opinions. Look, don't kid yourself. . Nigerians are a severely damaged people. Nigeria is finished. Good Luck to all those who must endure it. As for me, I'm done...done and done. And thankful I have the means to enforce my choice. 🙏 Cheers. 1 Like |

IbeOkehie: I am sure. The link you out was reporting in 2018 data and wasn’t a generalized one. May be they were going to learn language or because of another thing. I am certain they left not because of quality of life. Our Africans who migrated or are migrating were/are migrating only because of cash. You make more money in the US than in Europe, ideally. When it comes to quality of life, US and Canada ain’t match any of these top European countries: Iceland, Denmark, The Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein. All global living indices point to this fact. I have so many Africans here who went to try live in the UK and North America. The longest amongst them stayed 10 months - Ghanaian family. All our Nigerian counterparts who have stayed more than 5 years in any of the countries I have mentioned prefer to remain there because quality of life is top-notch. On several occasions here, the highest it takes an ambulance (and fire services) to arrive at a scene is 10 minutes. Their controlling na di.e. Superb system. Kids of ages 5 to 12 go out in middle of night here to play soccer and other games unaccompanied and nothing happens to them. Social insurance is very very cheap and highly effective. Schools are free parents only pay €80 monthly feeding fee in government schools. They have the best transportation systems in the world. No wonder Vienna was cited as World’s Most Livable Citied in the last assessment. The city has won the award more than 3 times. No US cities has come 10th in any of global living perspective indices. Only Vancouver, BC, has tried a bit. Denmark is 99% not corrupt. Netherlands is a paradise on its own. Go to Switzerland and see their system. Even when it comes to postal services, no US or Canada government’s postal services come closer like that if their European counterparts. This is just to give a scanty account of how European countries are living large. I have met a lot of Americans who visited Germany and vowed never to return to the US and love their permanently again. If Europe could have more English speakers, I bet you, nobody would want to migrate to America or Canada again. You can check a few things here about quality of life and sone other things: https://www.numbeo.com/quality-of-life/rankings_by_country.jsp US is even nowhere to be found. Use other world indices websites, other than the one I have given above, you will get nearly the same results.
