I really appreciate the fact that barely 48 hours of the inauguration of the economic advisory committee, they've come up with a tentative proposal to ensure growth in revenue generation.

However, I think in my own opinion, merging all these agencies/bodies into one is just too much for a single administrative structure to handle.

This is because, all these agencies are revenue drivers and they are all autonomous and as such merging them into one create a lot of confusion.

Also bearing in mind that this nation is so much endeared in corruption, a sole administrative body handling multiple revenue mobilizing agencies, the level of corruption will be mind blowing.

Lastly the red tapism/bottle necks will associated with all governmental agencies will further be multiplied.

These are just few of my concerns about the proposal. I stand to be corrected though.

Two different and disparate bodies…

The body was inaugurated yesterday was the National Economic Council, a constitutional “advisory” body headed by the VP and consisting of all of the state governors, commissioners in charge of finance, and a few others. It is a needless (in fact, USELESS) body IMHO, because there is already the National Council of States, and the economic philosophies of each of the states and of the federal government are NOT necessarily in alignment (eg, some states may be establishing state-owned companies while others may be privatizing) - which is actually what so-called “true federalism” entails. Accordingly, it’s just yet another extraneous jamboree for wastage if public funds.

On the other hand, the Policy Advisory Council referred to here is a private body set up by Tinubu to help him and the APC develop (initially a campaign manifesto, and subsequently) policies for his administration. It’s been working for SEVERAL MONTHS!

Most of these ideas are generally in the right direction…

But Nigeria shouldn’t “regularize” so-called “illegal refineries”…
They are toxic-spewing and environmentally disastrous, and we don’t want to encourage even more.

The full consequences (health, economic, environmental, etc.) of these “refineries” will become evident in time.

I don’t really think there is going to be any confusion created anyway as bringing them into a body makes it easier for proper monitoring and streamlining the revenue structure by automating it into the government purse directly.

Since all the agencies are revenue drivers or serves the same purpose, why do you think is abnormal to merge them together to achieve the said purpose in order to cut down the cost of carry out the similar functions?

Nigeria is broke . That is the sad reality. We are in a period of severe paucity of funds which means socialist type interventions simply are not options available to Nigeria. Buhari and his cabal have really crippled Nigeria.

I do agree with you that Nigerians need palliative but those will come soon once the Tinubu Government can first arrest how we are literally hemorrhaging billions into private hands, because of the omissions and commission of past governments, that can be deployed to make Nigeria much better.

There is no doubt all Nigerians must brace up and swallow bitter pills for the next 5 to 6 months so we can enter an era of growth, productivity and merit-driven greatness.

Flooding so-called "juicy" parastatals with nepotism (customs, Immigration, EFCC, FIRS etal) must stop to make way for merit-driven efficiency.

A lot to be done but Tinubu's approach, to me, is the correct one. The rot is too entrenched to the extent you may have to tear down the whole building rather and build a great new structure instead of trying to renovate sympathetically only to have a building , built poorly in the first place, collapsing on you at every stage.

How is Tinubus approach the correct one?

What was poorly built in the first place that needs to be torn down?

According to you..."There is no doubt all Nigerians must brace up and swallow bitter pills for the next 5 to 6 months so we can enter an era of growth, productivity and merit-driven greatness."

This was the same line in 2015. Why must nigerians always be swallowing bitter pills? What is the result of all the previous pills previously swallowed?

This might eventually leads to a power tussles among these organisations just like that of the DSS Vs EFCC, LASTMA and Road Safety etc... Despite knowing each others's duties, one body will still intentionally carryout the duties of the other just because of personal gain and not because of patriotism, and this will always tell on the citizens.... So I think they should just allow them remain a separate body....

Is the DSS merged with EFCC? And likewise LASTMA and Road safety?

How dare you merge customs,NIMASA and FIRS?

Orisirisi economic advisers undecided

There are other revenue generating agencies and all of them should be FORCED to operate effectively and efficiently.

I propose Nigerian Revenue & Monitoring Commission(NRMC) that could serve as the "general overseer " of all revenue generating agencies, where all FG revenues are monitored and consolidated using high level technology.

The NRMC should have investigation and prosecution powers.

Centralisation of revenue sources could be very fatal!

Legalising them would also imply prescribing minimum health and environmental standards applicable to all legal refineries.

They would have legal access to funding for environmental upgrades, etc.
