While Nigerians know how to give leadership a chance, extended suffering will force a reaction. It is therefore in the interest of the Administration that it ensures that its policies deliver on economic growth, reduced inflation, higher household income and production.

Same de javu situation today as it was the case when Buhari who passed the baton to the criminal mandate holder. Nigeria is just unfortunate with leadership. Guess the writer of this great piece will be called an IPOB member?

I thought the article you posted stated that the issue started in 1981 and who was the leader in 1981?

From Austerity measures, to Structural adjustment Policy, to MAMSER, what will this one be called? Government always pushing the brunt of their inefficiency on the masses

Seems Nigeria is always facing economic challenges.

The panacea is quite obvious but we pretend to not know.

Reduce cost of running government.

Stop government wastage.

Corruption, nepotism.

Let capable hands run the system.

But how can these be when most of the time, what are have are power thieves who steal political power either through the barrel of a gun or by robbing the people's vote either through vote buying or outright rigging and result manipulation.

The end justifies the means you'll say. But how can the end be good if the means if crooked?

No one steals power because he wants to serve the people, it's usually for selfish reasons so when they get it in there, just like a feudal system, their homage, tax or whatever you call it must remain untouched so they increase the tax to be paid by the serfs and that's what always happens in Nigeria, instead of the returns of the feudal lords to diminish, they increase tax which in our case is achieved by inflation.

Nigeria can only get it right when we start having legitimate intelligent governments.

Till then, let's enjoy Buharinomics promax now known as Tinubunomics.

Open your eyes, we're been run my a mafia.

Inflation will not cease because their money must to complete.
Nobody is talking about population growth.

It won't solve the problems we have now, and the new government would be forced to implement SAP in the short term...because quite frankly we don't have enough money, and the looting and corruption makes a bad situation worse.

Yes, I'm no fan of Tinubu.

Where did buhari see the 1trillion he spent on refineries without results?

Is there any country in the world that has enough money?

Do they all implement SAP because they don't have enough money?

Once upon a time
Public Sector was born
Then Private Sector followed
Corruption too emerged

After a while
The Private grew
Soon the Public-Private song started
Corruption dug in
The song changed but unbeknown to many
To Private-Public dance
Soon the Private will completely swallow the Public
But fact-checkers will debunk it.
And the masses will it.

Am I not a conspiracy theorist?

The Private Sector is now much worse now.

Those Contractors will collect contract at the Rate of N100 per Staff from their Clients, Give Kickbacks to the Core Management of the Clients and pay the Staffs who will do the Huge Loads Of Work N10 at the end of the Day.

I won't want to talk of the Workload which 5 Staffs are supposed to be doing but only One staff is assigned the huge Tasks. So you can Imagine 100×5=N500 but they are only paying 10 out of the N500.

That's how Most People make money In Nigeria and they will tell you It's God's grace.

An Average Typical Nigeria who is still struggling is just waiting to get to the Top and Unleash the Fury and Hardship they Unleashed on him while he/she was at the Bottomgrin

So the Cycle continues...

Lol... Don't just copy and paste.

SAP have nothing to do with being an oil-dependent country or the Dutch-disease. SAP is just a a set of economic reforms that countries (over the years SAP loans are mainly distributed to developing countries with Nigeria being the only oil-dependent country on the list) must adhere to in order to secure a loan from the Bretton Woods institutions.

A lot of young people of the Gen Z generation cannot relate to the economic turmoil of the late 1980's during the Babangida regime SAP policy. All they know is to shout 'Emilokan' on social media. Tinubu is taking Nigeria down a similar road and it will not end well

The article explains why we have to do SAP.

Ultimately, it's because 'we are not making enough money' because we do not want to do the policies that make us more money.

That oil we have, we don't have enough of it, and we are too reliant on it.

And we are very reliant on oil...to the point that our budgets always are based on a 'hypothetical oil price' and our revenues are largely oil based. We also don't have a high enough tax to gdp ratio, meaning we rely more on oil instead of taxes.

The IMF may be evil, but we haven't been doing much to free ourselves from its grasp....

This is a very big concern bros. And nobody is talking about it.

Economy grew by 5% under IBB according to the article, but the population increase of 3% made the effect of the said growth insignificant.

It means the decline started after the 1981 peak.

Or where did OBJ see $16bn for power project that was wickedly embezzled?

We fail to agree that corruption, nepotism (which breeds incompetence) and explosive population growth are the major causes of Nigeria's problem.

'we are not making enough money, yen yen yen'. The little we have was mismanaged, so what's the guarantee that the freed up funds from all subsidies removal will be judiciously used?

Jesus said, "he that is faithful in little, will be faithful in much. He that is unfaithful in little, will be unfaithful in much'.

Solomon said, "when goods are increased, they are increased who eat them'

So it's clear that corruption is Nigeria's main problem, whether she has little or much.

SAPs have failed to develop Nigeria not because assistance was hindered — or ‘thwarted’, in the language used by the IMF. Ineffectiveness occurred because assistance was NEVER the intention. SAP is neo-colonialism through “coerced adoption” . All the Profits made by this tinubu administration will be “exported to the West” and economic growth will be crippled through limited local investment. The vicious cycle continues.

Thank you. Some goons here praising Tinubu think it's a tribalism thing. They do not know that their future is being destroyed

Before we start, I am not here to be excusing any bad government. I myself believe that the APC has run this country badly, as has the PDP, and other governments.

Okay, here are some facts.

Saudi produces 10million barrels of crude and has 40 million people. Qatar produces 1.5m barrels of crude and has 1.8m people. UAE produces 2.8m barrels of crude and has 15 million people.

Nigeria, on the other hand, has 220 million people and produces 1.4million barrels of crude a day.

In other words, if Nigeria were to have enough oil money for its needs, it is either our population magically shrinks to 1-10million people, or we start producing something like 100million barrels of crude a day.

That is why people have been shouting at us...including economic experts, that we have to diversify our economy away from oil. Infact, the shouting has been going on for decades. Governments never hear.
