There have been massive battles between players and associations in Spain, Canada, the United States, France, etc. I think the biggest battles have been in France (where all their biggest stars decided to boycott the World Cup and the federation had to sack the coach) and Spain (where there was an almighty battle between the players, especially Barcelona players and the FA and many big stars decided to boycott the World Cup).


Today it's South Africa's turn.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) organised a send forth friendly match, but the World Cup bound players were not happy about the venue of the match. SAFA therefore dropped those players from the friendly and fielded home based players. The World Cup bound players came to the stadium but were locked out.

Botswana defeated the home based South African team 4-0. There were arguments between players, players union officials and SAFA officials.

Eventually the state governor had to intervene and mediate between the players and officials. They have announced that they won't change the World Cup squad and negotiations continue.

The dictionary definition of send forth has no bearing with the meaning you ascribe to it. In proper usage send-forth party is wrong. A sendoff is the correct word to use in the contest, meaning a party for a person who is leaving; a farewell party.(Dictionary.com)

It's an adverbial phrase of purpose and an idiomatic expression of mission. You can call it a phrasal verb.
The verb send can take any noun or pronoun in between. For example "They sent me forth to speak with you from Cambridge" or "They sent the super falcons forth for a chance to win the FIfa world cup".
