No, it is not environmentally friendly, and it will encourage other people to venture into it.

Burning any product of crude oil is not environment friendly either; that's why the world is advocating for green energy. If they can do it, why are our refineries not up and running??

At the expense of Niger Deltan environment
Environmental Degradation
This is how our waterways will become too dirty to clean in the future
When you see videos of Miami and other beautiful citizens in the West, or in UAE and Saudi, you’d wish Nigeria was cleaner
There are better ways to curb this

Funny Africans. You cannot maintain a refinery build by the west but the local refinery build by own people is labeled illegal technology. This is where our solution lies, legalize this illegal refinery. Remove prohibition, remove restrictions that made them far from legal . In a decades time, with capacity building, experience on the job , they will be competing with the west and we extricate ourselves from the technology shackles of the west.
Legalization of the illegal refinery is the therapy to our underdevelopment in the energy sector. Simple as ABC

The government is trying to increase revenue by all means without reducing the cost of governance.

This is exactly the issue with the BAT administration so far. Subsidy must go. For me he is getting the policies right, but his failure to openly cut down the cost of administration remain a bane. You can't expect the people to suffer and not wanting to make sacrifices too as the political class. He need to work on that.

Why not allow these illegal oil refineries to function if they can help make the product affordable to the masses

Operate on what, do they have oil well, people steal oil and then take it to illegal refineries, without any health compliance or regulations, you expect them to help make the price of oil more affordable.

The only reason they are profitable is because they stole the oil to begin with, tell them to buy the oil and see if they will survive.

Govt needs to review certain things, crunching down modular refineries for a country that can't boast of one functional refinery sounds ridiculous and a counter productive move.

Are we cursed or is there a taboo that forbids Nigeria must not refine it own crude oil, why can't govt integrate and annex these modular refineries into a system that will regulate there activities and ensures its in line with required standards, govt can even grant funds to help upscale these modular refineries at the end of the day it going boost our local production.
If we can't start big then starting small should be a prohibition

Another stupid law that needs review is the burning of vessels carrying stolen oil to our shores, why not divert the stolen oil ceased to serve public servants hereby govt save itself of re-current expenditure. why waste what we can use and save some money.
Govt annexing modular refineries is one move that will enhance growth no doubt

If d people we dey copy have a single state having more than 50 refinery sites in Texas. What's d big deal in having Ten refinery sites each state of the Niger Delta and are private sector driven run at smes level with corporate guidance and state backen.

Stop destroying home grown technology in the name of labelling them illegal. Legalize them and that alone can move 20Mi people out of poverty. Indians have done it, same as Brazil.

The Brazil have encouraged their illegal aircraft company to grow wings and develop. Today we have embraier air producing heavy duty aircraft. They develop alcohol from casavva and in turn used it to fuel their cars and piston engine across their industry. Assuming it is in our clime, Govt agency will describe it as illegal and kills people dream. Govt cannot provide job , they cannot think. Ordinary palliative meant for the poorest of the poor, people earning 20Mi per months as salary are begging to be part of palliative ( Nigerian legislator, eyesores!)

In india, their home grown technology has significantly advance through Tata motors and presently indian has joined the big 5 countries in spaces development. Just last week on India soil, they launch a rover to the the space. What England is yet to do. In Nigeria, their development will have been hindered with the voice of destroy it they are illegal.

We have to turn away from this one way thinking and embrace multiple ideas that can drive us out of the wood, No country in the world will shows us the secret by transferring their technology soft power to us. Never. Our development must be grown from bottom top and we must trust the process and believe in our dream. Innoson is one example of a singular individual believing and living his dream and this is the period he needs the state to come in aggressively for support and advance his dream further.

I think am the only person that have this same thinking ooo. Some Nigerian are just too daft, many of them are supporting the government on them. They should ask themselves, why can't the government empower all this people?. Many people here are comparing us with the west and UAE. They should ask themselves, are we in the same level. What I think is for the government to find a way to resolve this hike in petroleum using the illegal bunkery. Many people are suffering because of this. And many people have quit work cos of this

The refineries been destroyed are not modular refineries, do you know the cost of setting up a modular refinery, refineries are not operated like road side mechanic, such crude practice of cooking Crude oil in drums and sale of its final product is totally unacceptable...We can't can't legalize illegality due to scarcity, if allowed then someday illegal drugs will be legalized...

I agree with the house of representatives, the military should stop burning the ships with the stolen crude oil. We need more of this from our military.

What do you suggest they should do with it.
Keep it, so that the cabal can still lobby to get it back.
The one burnt was arrested sometimes ago, it was rebranded and return to it's vomit.

I agree with u sir. I started hearing d word " illegal refinery" since Abacha days as far back as 1995. Imagine. That means we have some genius Nigerian's who have basic knowledge of how to produce PMS since those Abacha eras.

Imagine if we have bring them in and guide them and regulate their productions and sell crude to them in Naira legally and allow them to grow organically, the usual Nigeria land is full of milk and honey will have become a reality today and we would be shielded from international oil politics madness. Furthermore, our commitment to their growth will not affect our production and commitment to OPEC quota. A win win situation. The country would have nurture them to extent that we will also be catering for countries in west Africa energy demand.

Conversely, when Obj and Abacha license and liberalize telephony in this country, The first generation of fones that we started with were called GSM. And development has scaled up in that sector today that we are appraised with Android run phones and more to come. If we contextualize our home grown technology of refining oil in this setting, there is space for growth and development and opportunity for massive job creations and above all attendant reduction in poverty across multiple sectors. Not with mouth experience under Buhari in terms of reducing poverty by wish not by action.

Legalization of illegal refinery is our solution.

Why destroying the refineries

Why not make them legal
cos it lacks the factors considered to making a refinery legal.
Location, equipment and environmental factors.

What is the quality of products being refined in those illegal refinery?

It makes no sense to keeping destroying them, further polluting the environment.

The FG over the years should have acknowledged that those engage in the crude ways of refining the oil have the basic knowledge, get them to become legal in their operations, get them trained on best practices, to improve quality of production, sell crude oil to them at a rate that would discourage stealing what is in their backyard as truth be told , the oil is primarily theirs. Their production activities would reduce the dependence on imported fuel.

A very brilliant submission. It is quite unfortunate that our leaders are illiterate and selfish people!
