...GIVES THREE-MAN COMMITTEE, LABOUR LEADERS ONE WEEK TO FINALISE PROPOSALS

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji on Thursday directed a three-man committee of the State Government to meet with the leadership of Organised Labour to finalise proposals for palliative measures aimed at cushioning the effect of the subsidy removal on the citizens.

The committee and the labour leaders were given one week to report back to the Governor, who will then make a formal pronouncement on the options that are considered implementable.

This was part of the outcome of the Governor’s meeting with the leadership of the organised labour in his office on Thursday evening.

In attendance at the meeting were the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Olatunde Kolapo; Chairman, Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Sola Adigun; and Chairman of the Joint negotiating Committee (JNC), Comrade Babatope Ajoloko and other officials of the unions.

The Government’s three-man committee include the State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Mr Akin Oyebode (chairman), Head of Service, Barrister Bamidele Agbede and Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani.

Governor Oyebanji said government alone could not take the decision on palliative measures, hence the involvement of the leadership of organised labour.

He added that the palliative measures to be put in place would also take care of pensioners and people in the informal sector of the economy.

The Governor, at the meeting, also commended the leadership of labour unions in the state as well as the citizens for their understanding, stressing that government is determined to ease the pains occasioned by the subsidy removal.

See I don’t want hear about palliatives again. We saw how it went during COVID-19. If palliatives were hoarded/diverted during that period, how will it not be hoarded and/or money allocated for it diverted?

Putting the cart before the horse. Palliatives would have been agreed on before the subsequent removal of subsidy. This one is medicine after death. It would also not be effective judging by the Nigerian factor. It is meant for politicians and their cronies. The hardship no be here for the masses.

I still ask for the umpteenth time... Why is Labor not being carried along in all these policies?!!

At this point, NLC president should even be a key part of the Economic team.

That way, they can be the voice of the people, and this will keep suspicions at bay, thereby allowing smooth transition and implementing of all government economic policies.

NLC should never shift ground on the cutting of governance costs from federal to state, and keenly demand the monitoring of the massive income from subsidy removal.

These leaders must be compelled to be transparent! Nonsense and Corruption.

Time is everything , future is unpredictable, when Buhari was leaving. I thought it can never get worst but I guess I was wrong. I just pray its get better because we can't afford to get to stage where people will be eating leaves and grass and breaking people home just to survive, we have enough resources to thrive but some looters continue looting forgetting the adage, the child they refuse to train will end up becoming the beast they can't control.. that when things turn worst, the security won't be able to protect them, the effect of bad governance will end up eating both the rich and the poor and if they believe they can run, they have seen the result of people who run away now.they ends up in oyinbo prison
