Tycyborg: In the spirit of doing research and talking out of ignorance perhaps if you took your own advice you would realize that Nigeria has installed generation capacity of 13,000mw but we hardly produce above 4500mw because most of our generation plants like you said are gas (perhaps the only factual comment in your post) and most of them have no gas stock feed. In fact ElRufai said at his confirmation yesterday that there are gas plants that have been completed for over 3 years but have never worked because they have no gas. Also read my comment on Niger again. I merely explained why we supply them electricity because some had made comments about Nigeria supplying them electricity. Nothing in my comment implies or warrants the nonsense you wrote. Perhaps you should take your own advice and question the quality of the education you received. I repeat read and comprehend. Nowhere in my post did I suggest they could cut off the flow from the river Niger. Where will the water go? Use your brain. My comment was about the trans Sahara gas pipeline. As for getting facts right, our installed hydro capacity is between 2.1GW and 2.8 GW depending on state of completion of Zungeru and it is actually our most reliable le power source as Nigerian Gas power plants are notorious for going offline due to lack of gas. Most of the time when you hear power generation has dropped its not the hydro plants but the gas plants. Besides, your comment about Guinea is just as ludicrous as what you implied I said but actually did not. 1 Like |

optimusprime2: The military rule won't work for them in the long run and alot of them will run into Nigeria which is bad for us. The black people are so stupid and I think a lot of them are illiterate or they have very low IQ... Instead of them to find a way to solve things they are praising military coup which in long run will back fire on the citizen. Same applies to book Haram in the north and ipob in the east. Give a black man a pistol and he will become a monster 1 Like |

sonnie10: Nothing will happen... We only generate like 10 percent of our electricity from the dam and others means of our electricity is from gas turbine. You can research it . Besides Niger can't even pay Nigeria for the electricity money the are owing up to 50 million dollars let alone building their own dam or having a power plant... They are one of the poorest in African and even can't afford a loan because they receive charity from Europe and usa and they have already stopped it as well. So they are going to suffer it. The bad side is if the saction hits so much there will be influxes of these people in the North of Nigeria because our customs are very corrupt. And if the stick with the military rules it will back fire in the long run and there will be influx as well... So we rather go against the coup than the long run effect of the military coup. 1 Like |

Curse777: Nope 700mw because 85 to 90 percent of our electricity come from gas not hydro.... We won't feel it if we stop giving Benin republic, Togo and Niger and we boost or expand / reform our old power grid. Put more gas and build more gas power plant. We are currently using 4k to 5k MW and we need like 33k for steady power supply cos of high population of people with access to electricity and companies.supplues as well 1 Like |

Nigeria cutting off electricity supply to Niger... This is laughable though... A country that cant even supply all her citizens electricity for 24 hours. If they can cut off electricity from her citizens, I don't regard them. |

God Almighty will judge you with your reasoning. God searches the heart and judges with that in your heart. All Nigerians are aware that what we have in nigeria cannot be called democracy but military rule in disguise. 2023 Election that was massively rigged to favour apc and tinubu is what you are here writing rubbish. Election that tinubu foot soldiers of Agboro were released by jagaban to intimidate and suppress voters that would not vote for them in lagos and beyond. Throwback: |

Nahunger: The Wagner presence in Africa is over estimated. Presently, Mali has an estimated number around 300-700 of them, B. Faso around 1000, so Niger would not have that much. At the moment, Nigeria has the capacity to mobilize 20,000 soldiers, supported by Air fire power. Don't over estimated Russia loyalty to Niger, if it comes to support, the biggest money bag wins. Russia need more economic partners more and Nigeria is one of the biggest in Africa. I don't support war, peaceful dialog should be used to resolve the problem 1 Like |

Alot of people on this thread don't know that only about 27 percent of Nigeria's electricity comes from hydroelectric dams. The remaining 73 percent is almost entirely from gas powered plants. |

Nigeria needs to exercise restrain n apply wisdom on matters as such. For those not aware the supply of electricity to Niger was premised on d fact that niger was not going to build a dam on d river niger. The leadership of our country Nigeria should consult widely on their intent in niger bc their is existing deep ties btw the citizens of both countries. Gauging the fillers right now this govt does not enjoy broad based support n any attempt to inflict hardship on neighboring country with deep social, religious n economics ties could negatively back fire. Thank u |

Phraences: Sit down there. What's aligning? Let military intervention happen and see how crime is going to increase in Nigeria. Do you know that the ousted president was taking instructions from France on the fight against insurgency? You need to get information from other sources outside the western media to truly know what's going on. |

Procashtips: Information from which other sources? Anti western media perhaps? And what's wrong with taking instructions from France on insurgency. I believe he was taking advice. Who else will he get advice from? And no body wants military intervention but sanctions and other measures like this cutting off of power supply.. |

Phraences: Why should a sovereign country be taking instructions from another country before deciding to fight insurgents within her border? Are you reading what you're typing at all? It's like Nigeria waiting for the UK to give us a go ahead before fighting boko haram. So any source not aligned with the western media is automatically 'anti-west'? We cut power, like we were giving them for free before? Some of you Nigerians eh. |

Procashtips: A coup has taken place in an ECOWAS country and a democratically elected president has been overthrown and is being held in confinement. Whether they were paying for electricity does not matter. ECOWAS and Nigeria cannot just seat and fold their hands. You said i should not listen to western media but other sources. Which other sources? Al-Jazeera or Russian media? Are they the ones that will say the truth?? You say they took instructions from France. Where is your source? Probably from non-western media. Where they instructions or advice? Whatever the case, a poor nation bedeviled by insurgents would reach out to their strongest ally, in this case their colonial master. If this military ruler allies with Russia he will still take instructions from Putin. Who pays the piper dictates the tune. Make una dey there dey romanticize Military rule like say na Angel Michael dey head the military. |

Phraences: The puppet president was removed with majority of the citizens being in support of the removal because he's said to be a puppet selling out his people to his slave master - France and the west. He was said to be a stoopee doing the biddings of France to the detriment of his fellow country men. These are some of the reasons his defence officials removed him. |
Re: Nigeria Commences Sanctions Against Niger, Cuts Off Electricity Supply by Phraences: 11:42pm On Aug 03, 2023 |
Procashtips: They said, They said, They said. Give a dog a bad name in order to hang it. Well, for his people to be rejoicing that means he is not a good leader and probably corrupt and the people have been living in poverty.. But the defence officers are hiding under the West as excuse to sieze power. We know how military rule turns out. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. They even turn out worse than the Person they removed. Now the military has removed him. What is their next plan. To rule or to conduct elections and hand over to another democratically elected president? Now they are allying with Russia. They think when Russia gains ground there they won't also start giving 'instructions'. Na dem sabi. |

Right, Niger wants freedom but sold its country for eletricity that if anything won't be ready for 5 years. Russia will also build a seaport for them in the desert and fill in all the gaps the more roaring sanctions will cause. Haha! Russia just got his first colony in Africa and we all are a witness to the purchase. WriterNigg: |
