Aug 4 (Reuters) - S&P Global Ratings on Friday revised its outlook on Nigeria to stable from negative, citing the government's recent reforms which the credit ratings agency believes could benefit the country's growth and fiscal outcomes if delivered.

The agency also affirmed its rating for Africa's largest economy at 'B-/B'.

Nigeria's new president, Bola Tinubu, has embarked on the country's boldest reforms in decades, which he hopes will kick-start growth and attract foreign investors into a country that has suffered chronic dollar shortages, making it difficult for companies to thrive.

"Nigeria's newly elected government has moved quickly to implement a series of fiscal and monetary reforms, which we believe will gradually benefit public finances and the balance of payments," the ratings agency said in a statement on Friday.

On Monday, Tinubu said Nigeria has saved over 1 trillion naira ($1.32 billion) in just over two months by scrapping a popular but costly subsidy on petrol and unifying the country's multiple exchange rates.

Tinubu's reforms have been welcomed by investors, but unions say the reforms have led to soaring costs when inflation has been in double-digits in Nigeria since 2016, eroding savings and incomes.

The World Bank has said it expects Nigeria could save up to 3.9 trillion naira this year alone from reforms but warned of growing short-term inflationary pressures.

S&P's sovereign analyst Frank Gill said last month that the ratings agency was closely watching Nigeria ahead of its review on Aug. 4 and added that recent reforms were positive signs.

In February, S&P had maintained Nigeria's credit rating at "B-/B" but changed its outlook to "negative". Rival Fitch affirmedv the West-African country at 'B-' in May.

This your Yoruba propaganda no go work. We are measuring the performance of the government by the reality on ground and not paper. A loaf of bread is now 1500 from 1000 just two months ago. Tinubu said he doesn't believe in statistics how do you expect us to believe in paper statistics now?

Yoruba people are so powerful for influencing propaganda on Bloomberg and Reuters.

By the way, this news is for Nigerians and not Biaflans.

Biaflans get mad at any positive news about Nigeria. If you had rejoiced over this news, it would have been the tenth wonder of this world.

He has already surpassed 8 years Buhari just with this , under Buhari our rating kept going down every day till it entered Junk and in just 60 days Tinubu has been able to take it back to stable , I told y'all even a grinded stone will do better than Buhari , Buhari was the very worst kind of leadership any human can come across, the man was totally ZERO..

Let this sink in , under Buhari not a single economic index , I mean not a single one improved in 8 years , not one.

This news is a bad news for some people

There is a point where you set boundaries. I ask myself sincerely, if Obi or atiku had won the election against my own candidate, will I wish Nigeria downfall because my candidate did not win. The answer is a big no! I would wish the country succeed no matter what.
Even some northerners that voted Atiku who came second have long moved and everyday they wish Nigeria to be great.
I have northern friends who voted atiku and have long moved on.
But some people wish is either Obi wins or Nigeria fails! What kind of human are you. Ask yourself sincerely if the universe will ever be good to your kind.

Good!!!

They said Tinubu's leg is shaky on the presidential seat but the president is making tough decisions that makes him less popular amongst the people except the reasonable ones like us.

If the president has envisaged a rerun, don't you think he'll have been engaging in policies that will endear him to the majorities and thereby putting the country on the brink of collapse or outright collapsing the country just to win the imaginary rerun election?

Tinubu presidency is here and it's surely here for solid uninterrupted 8 years.

handwork of IMF and World bank. If you refuse to follow their recommendations, they put you on negative, but if you follow their recommendations, they put you on positive immediately. But time has shown that their recommendations has never been in Africa's interest in the long run.

This is exactly why they almost destroyed Ghana's economy last year because the president refused to follow their recommendations of dealing with EU. They claimed Ghana doesn't have the resources to refine his own resources and must deal with EU that's capable, else they'll blacklist them and they actually carried out their threats
