Not only compulsory but essential.

"Remember the sabbath day (Sunday) and keep it holiday". That was a command not a statement.

@ onye babe, yes we have some or may be many that go to church but whose character is not to write home about, but that is not enough reason not to go. have we ever stop plying the roads because there are too many accidents there? At a time in nigeria, it was plane crash here and there but that didnt stop our people from taking flight even then etc. we keep giving excuses/reasons why we wouldnt go to church but if we understand the purpose of the church well we will know that it is a place where people of terrible characters are gradually changed from bad to good. And until they totally change, there actions must not be taking as an excuse not to go to church. SHALOM!!

Thanks for the compliment. Pls, do us the honor of justifying your sabbath being saturday. I strive not to be a 'christian' as you believe but a 'christian' as was commanded. Sabbath is Sunday to me my brother. Of course, you are free to assume any day of the week as your sabbath. I can never be coerced to accepting your assertion. The fact remains, lie or no lie, GOD remains GOD.

"DO NOT FORSAKE THE GATHERING OF THE BRETHREN" is a command to all Christians. Whether Sunday, Saturday, Friday (like in Dubai) or any other day a congregation may choose to worship God. As a member do not miss out.

Our Weekly Day Of Rest And Worship

"And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day" (Deuteronomy 5:15)

It is significant that God’s Ten Commandments are found twice in the Bible (Exodus 20:21–17 and Deuteronomy 5:6–21).  In fact, "Deuteronomy" means "The Second Law."  The two are worded identically, with a few exceptions.

The most significant of these changes is in connection with the reason given for obeying the fourth commandment, to "keep the sabbath day."  In Exodus, the reason given is: "For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day" (Exodus 20:11).  Here in "the second law," the reason given is that God saved Israel out of bondage in Egypt, and now was about to enter the promised land.  In other words, when the Israelites observed each Sabbath day in rest and worship, they were acknowledging God as both their Creator and their Redeemer.

Christians also, as they devote every seventh day as a day of rest and worship, should be remembering God for His finished creation ("the heavens and the earth were finished"—Genesis 2:1) and His finished redemption ("It is finished" was Christ’s victory cry on the cross—John 19:30).

The word "Sabbath" means "rest," of course—not "Saturday" or "Sunday" or even "seventh" (the word for "seventh" in Hebrew is similar, but distinctly different from that for "sabbath"wink.  Most Christians now believe it is appropriate to honour the Lord Jesus (who is both their Creator and Redeemer) to take their seventh day of rest and worship on the first day of each week, thereby recognising both His finished work of redemption and also His finished work of creation. HMM

If you don't fellowship, you are not among the fellow sheep.
Re: Is It Compulsory To Go To Church On Sunday? by Sirniyeh(m): 4:20pm On Nov 10, 2011
Wonder! Hear this, the greatest truth is not found in the bible! Quote me anywhere. The name sunday was derived after the practice of the Hebrews who worship sun. It was the day they worship sun they called sunday. This practice has been before the birth of Jesus. It was after the death of Jesus that Jesus's converts tried to tactfully abolish the worship of the sun that they decided to gather for fellowship on that same day. That's the origin of sunday. God does not understand the word sunday, He understands TRUTH, LOVE. And so, worship is a thing of the mind. The best worship God understands is hospitality - practically meeting the needs of lessprivilege, and this is not practised in the churches today.

No, it doesnt have to be compulsory but it can be advisable.

Nairalanders should please understand their monitoring and bitterness towards any particular person should not extend to disrupting their fellowship with God at their church, it doesnt matter what type of networking you are doing.
