There's nothing unusual about it. As Africa's largest economy, Nigeria is of interest to BRICS. As an emerging superpower, BRICS is of interest to Nigeria.

Now, does Nigeria have to join BRICS in order to enjoy the benefits? No. We can participate as friendly outsiders.

Invited for sightseeing? Nigeria should exert her pride in the comity of Nations.

Imagine inviting Nigeria to a bloc of Nations without defining the objective and reasons. It's absurd and condescending, to say the least.

Our presence there is a threat to other continental power blocs and as such shouldn't be offered on a platter. The risk shouldn't be free.

Countries with stronger economies and foresight are applying to join but my beloved country didn't see any sense in the opportunity. One of the major advantage of being a BRICS member is that it offers member countries the opportunity of doing business in their local currencies instead of having to buy the dollar and keep getting shortchanged when they use the dollar for international trade. Being a BRICS member offers us an advantage of not allowing our reserves to always be at the mercy of the dollar. The BRICS members combined together now have a larger global economy than the G7 led by the US. Nigeria should be looking at being part of the multipolar movement on the global scene but as usual, we are always late to the party at every important step that needs to be taken. One of the beautiful thing about the BRICS is that member states are not allowed to use sanctions economically on a member state irrespective of political differences.

13 years later Nigeria (the so-called undisputed Giant of Africa) is still deliberating and not getting an automatic invite like SA did 🤣🤣🤣

BRICS is similar to the none align state movement formed during the cold war..... Only difference here is that Russia and china because then they were at other side of the cold war....

Egypt been there is on India consensus because Egypt and India were original founding members of the none align movement...... Ethiopia is there because china wants to use them as a star boy to lure other African nation....

Iran believes they should be major power in the Middle east and are there due to Russia influence....

Saudi Arabia and UAE are there because they need some form of security guarantee from china.... This is because the 70 year security Yankee have always provided is most likely going away.....

The guarantee ensured the royals were protected from nations like Iran who total carried out a revolution of their royal system..... And where hell bent on spreading the same across middle east.... It also protected them from strong men like Saddam.... Thus the first gulf war and also protects them from terrorist groups....

Argentina is there for free money.... They haven't entitlement mindset of collecting and feel they should be amongst top dogs in the world..... They have paid any of the loans they were given for years.....

What everyone missed out is that they couldn't come to a consensus on a currency to trade.....

Winner here is INDIA because factories are moving out of china into India.... And India have been propped up by the west in terms of military to counter china..... And create a balance....

So when it comes to vetoing and voting all the major guys.... Russia, china and India have countries to neutralize and also use to have their way.

You realized I never mentioned south Africa... Reason is because they are still very pro west, such evidence could be seen in the arrest warrant for Putin.... South Africa total avoided because the government knows he's powerless

Can you imagine the folly of our country? Others applied and have been accepted. It is said that progressively it will become more stringent to join, ofcourse easier at the early stage.
I was shocked not to see Nigeria on the list of newly admitted members. What is wrong with us for God's sake? Imagine the benefit to us trading with our local currency with other members, it will even reduce the demand for usd and therefore improve the value of the naira.
Anyway, it is likely the US would have issued orders to oga at the top warning him not to join or face consequences.
