It's another time soak up some knowledge. During the start of Cold War, the United States' Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) launched its “Operation Mockingbird”, which aimed to collect intelligence by bribing journalists and institutions, people around the world and affecting public opinion by manipulating news media. The purpose of Operation Mockingbird was to implant pro-US propaganda, especially against Russia in American media and front organizations. Starting in the 1950s, the CIA began to hire and contract students and people in the media to write false stories, or embellish stories to favor the U.S Government. What's the meaning of propaganda? Propaganda is the dissemination of information—facts, half-truths, lies, arguments, rumors to influence (brainwash) the public opinion. Propaganda is used to promote a particular agenda or point of view. The goals of propaganda can vary, but common goals include influencing people to be always obedient, shaping people's opinions, convincing them to support a particular cause or political candidate, or encouraging them to behave in a certain way (zombieism). The Nigerian context of Operation Mockingbird The online brigandage of some people in Nigeria's political demography comes to mind. What distinguishes propaganda from normal exchange of ideas is the deliberateness and heavy emphasis on manipulation. For instance, in his desperate bid to gain the support of young Nigerians, a corrupt politician who is 63 years old labels himself a youth, and a saint. The corrupt man claims he is the only man able to make Nigeria great, and interstingly, some Nigerian youths fell for this. That's manipulation at work. Peter Obi's usual fashion of wearing black dresses (as though he's mourning), the unsolicited Eyes-On-The-Judiciary billboards mounting, unpatriotic synthetic clamor for putsch in Nigeria, the cyber space hooliganism by Obi's followers, the unobjective anti Muslim-Muslim ticket campaign, Arise Tv's pre-elections bias spearheaded by Rufai Oseni, cyber space lies by Obi and his supporters, the fake statistics citations by Obi during interviews/media tours, etc. That's Operation Mockingbird. Thanks to God, Operation Mockingbird by Obi and his cohorts has been completely dismantled. God gave President Tinubu the wisdom to boycott Arise TV's desperate request for an interview, he declined to debate with his unpopular political opponents like Obi and Atiku. The remaining job was left in the hands of the Jagaban Army. Glory to God, he defeated his opps hands down. As at today, Monday, September 4, 2023, Obi and Atiku's supporters are in limbo.
