Baiyeku, Ikorodu Laments Bad Roads, Seeks Govt Intervention by 001Lagos: 8:54pm On Sep 04, 2023
Residents of the Baiyeku community in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State have decried the deplorable condition of their road, urging the government to alleviate their suffering by putting palliative measures in place while they await the construction of the road.

Our correspondent who visited the community on Friday learnt that while construction works were ongoing along the major road in Igbogbo, the same gesture had not been extended to the Baiyeku community.

A resident who identified himself simply as Fadare noted that based on the information on the contract signpost, the ongoing construction on Igbogbo Road would end at the Housing Estate around the Agunfoye area.

He described the road from Dikram Filling Station at Emily Bus Stop down to Baiyeku as deplorable.

“The road is usually flooded during the rainy season. Palliative measures should be put in place on Bayeku Road pending when they will come and fix it,” he said.

Another resident, Kehinde Adebayo, who lives along Maternity in Baiyeku, claimed that the bad road had led to high transport fares along the road.

Also speaking with PUNCH Metro, a resident who identified herself as Iya Aisha lamented the hike in transport fare occasioned by the bad road.

“The suffering is too much. Places that we were going to with transport fares of N150 or N200 now cost us N500 or N600. If it rains, we will spend N1, 000 or even N1,200,” she said.

A commercial motorcyclist simply identified as Emeka, who claimed to have lived in the Macaulay area of Baiyeku for over eight years said the road had always been bad.

Commenting, the Chairman of the Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area, Olusesan Daini, claimed that his administration had put in place palliative measures on major roads inside the Bayeku community.

Daini said “The road was awarded in two phases, and they are still working on Phase I which has its duration. The people of Phase II will have to patiently wait till the end of the first phase.

“Another thing that is affecting Phase II is the Fourth Mainland Bridge which I think has a route around that place. However, the council has done a lot on the palliative at Macaulay, Unity and Maternity. The people should know that the government will not be happy when they suffer but there are due processes.”

Contacted, the Director of Public Affairs, Lagos State Public Works Corporation, Samuel Ayetutu, said inner roads would be attended to after the construction of the major road.

“Construction is ongoing on the Igbogbo-Baiyeku Road which is a major road that needs to be fixed. However, we would look into the inner roads to see if they only need grading or full construction but that can only be done after the major road leading to those communities has been attended to,” he explained.

The many other scary side of Lagos that they wouldn't show you

Shame shame shame

For a state that generates huge IGR be looking like a dirty smelly slum.

No wonder Lagos was rated the 4th worst city to live on earth by the European council.

Where is the revenue going to?

Chai, since the news about Lagos's gigantic metro rail project hit the frontpage, some Sukudis, 0bing0s, and 0bid0gs have been having serious chest pain even while selling their gala near the metro rail project. This impostor from 1m0 had to dig up some unfortunate news as a counter. Anything to mop IP0b tears, anyways cheesy

Bayeku own small. Go to Igberigbe axis...you will have to navigate through Bush for the larger part of the journey.

Imota/agbowa nko? You will think you are heading to an inhabitant land.
