The Day Democracy Died In Nigeria. by Toks2008(m): 3:12pm On Sep 08, 2023
The picture says it all.

How can a nation move forward when votes don't count.

Democracy is government by the people and for the people... But when government is longer by the people then how will the government act in the interest of the people?

The biggest loser is NIGERIA because never again will the progressive youths come out to register to vote, never again will progressive Nigerians bother to vote because they know that their votes are useless.

INEC has set Nigeria several years back and the nation may never ever recover from it.

The former senate president said openly that capturing of results real time from polling units and sending to server is what they signed into law.

INEC chairman MAHMOOD YAKUBU said several times that capturing of election result real time from the polling unit and sending to the server IS A LEGAL REQUIREMENT.

Furhermore, the electoral act in section 64 subsection 4 b clearly states...

(4) A collation officer or returning officerat an election shall collate and announce the result of an election, subject to his or her verification and confirmation that the

(b) the votes stated on the collated result are correct and consistent with the votes or results recorded and transmitted directly from polling units under section 60 (4) of this Act.

I have always believed that once a bill is signed into law it becomes binding and failure to adhere will have legal consequences.

But in a strange twist, the tribunal has ruled that it is not mandatory despite being a legal requirement in the electoral act.

Perhaps if well meaning Nigerians push the government to make it mandatory that INEC must capture and transmit voting results real time from polling units to servers and failure to do this will void the result of the effected polling unit... Maybe Nigerians might give birth to another Democracy...

For now I will say "May the soul of Democracy in Nigeria rest in peace" .

Our stupidity killed democracy the very first day this demonic party came into power.

Then we buried democracy that very moment we thought an Igbo man can rule this country.

If this one nor teach una sense nothing go teach una again.

In few months to a year from now you guys will start seeing the result of your actions in the last concluded election.

How did democracy die in Nigeria ?

If Obi was the people's choice as you claim , why are there no mass protests ?

The real tyrannts are you Obidients who wooed the military to seize power and truncate our democracy but were ignored.

The real antidemocratic mob are you Obidients who threatened , slandered and blackmailed the judiciary to return your failed candidate.

Nigeria did not burn after the Tribunal ruling because a vast majority of Nigerians did not vote for your candidate and did not invest their lives and emotions on the election tribunal .

Go and rest.

cool

Democracy is alive and well in Nigeria

Gen Abdulsalami Left
Obasanjo left
Jonathan left
Buhari left
they all left through Elections

Your Cameroon brothers Next door where Biya is in his 42nd year as President would be too glad to swap places with you

Let us explain things to you gently may be you will Understand better

Ok

same way you voted for Peter Obi is the same way others voted for Tinubu and Atiku

Peter Obi failed to get 25 % in any Sharia Muslim States so that alone is already 12 States lost
plus the 5 SW States where he failed to get 25 % that is already 17 States lost where he didn't get the mandatory 25% National Spread.
We haven't yet added Kogi ,Kwara and others o !
Peter Obi lost!!

Even if you want to very stubbornly argue that the 5 SW States results were rigged and exclude them
( But in that case the APC will also argue for the SE results to be excluded too for the very same reason)

Then include only the 12 Sharia Muslim States where Peter Obi failed to get 25% and add Kwara and Kogi State too
That is already a total of 14 States,
Peter Obi could not afford to have 25% in less than 24 states without loosing

Peter Obi still lost the Elections!!!!!

Democracy in its purest form is by definition, mob rule - a scenario where the majority over rules the minority.

The founding fathers and authors of the American state and her constitution saw this flaw in a democratic system, so they decided to protect the minority (individual) from the majority (mob) rule by authoring a constitution that promotes individual rights above everything else including the state. The Bill of rights and ammendments were then enacted to protect the individual from mob rule and the collegiate system as a check mechanism.

The American founders were libertarian and more concerned with protecting individuals from the menace posed by mob rule (democracy).

In liberal societies aka communism , the majority trumps the minority and the state is supreme.

You can all see how crafty the Anarcho Marxists in the Disobidient movement are by desperately trying to paint themselves as democratic without them even preventing to have a care of individual choices .

Their candidate never was close to wining except in their Alaigbo enclave were mob attacks were recorded on those who wanted to excersice their constitutional free choice rights to vote who they wanted to vote for in the last elections . We read of how non Obi supporters were prevented from voting or booed away from the polling unit with cases of some Tinubu voters lynched and killed by the Obidient mob.

Yes, Obi won overwhelmingly in your yeast owing to mob pressure and mentality including massive rigging and ballot stuffing.

But this was never the case else where other than in some isolated cases in Lagos that targeted Obi voters but everywhere else, the elections went smoothly.

You are the real tyrannts and greatest enemies of democracy after you bastards began calling for military take over and later slandering the judiciary.

Nobody is calling Obi the people's choice, he isn't my choice....none of them. But no court on earth can take power from candidate and just dump it on another in a case like this.

However, that election was crap, a sham, a big joke on Nigerians. But the people running the sham already did test run in 2015 and 2019, Nigerians did absolutely nothing about it !

And they were absolutely right that doing this third time wouldn't result in any backlash from Nigerians.

Needless as this is, you can choose to keep at this "emotional rigmarole" calling it the "death of democracy".

In your 9th paragraph you said "Perhaps if the supreme court makes it mandatory..." haba now, from Arms of Government 101 you should know that it is not the duty of the judiciary to do what you are asking. Theirs is to AFFIRM the law as passed by the National Assembly!

The Judiciary only affirmed the law that gives leg room for INEC to choose whatever mode of transmission it seems fit. Like it or not!

Think solution: Push for an amendment no matter how long it takes but NO you wouldnt!

You even said "The biggest loser is NIGERIA because never again will the progressive youths come out to register to vote, never again will progressive Nigerians bother to vote because they know that their votes are useless." I laugh! You mean if you don't vote all of a sudden all the youths in Nigeria won't vote again? Who were those voting before now? Emotions! Sentiments! Keep it in check. Yo are way too old for this.

Which yeye logic? Na only north waka come? You are obviously a novice who didn't know Peter Obi left PDP because of refusal to zone the ticket. Obi supported Atiku in 2019 but Atiku can't reciprocate because of greed. Buhari ruled 8 years and Atiku from the north want to continue from Buhari. But Obi is the one you hate.

Well, I see this new tale been rehashed over and again- this "you don't want an Igbo man bla bla"... So only Igbos+non indiegens voted Obi in Lagos and he won Lagos right?

Call it whatever you want we didn't vote Obi and won't vote Obi because we can't vote a man who made Anambra POORSIBLE to make Nigeria POSSIBLE mbannu! I didn't say it, long before Soludo concretized it, it was all over this platform and other platforms how you all reviled him for nonperformance then boom he becomes Messiah! I would vote Soludo/Okonjo and even a Ken Nnamani or any other refined SEasterner anyday going by their antecedents but you see that emergency chinko statistician mbannu.

This talk of Petrol bla bla you keep harping on is so so infantile I must say! It is boring!

And Infact it is already mandatory as written in the electoral act but Inec just chose to do as it likes.

And I was referring to progressive youths not bothering to register not the youths suffering from Stockholm syndrome.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu of APC won.

He scored 8.7m votes that is over 1.8m votes ahead of his closes rival, Atiku of the PDP, and almost 2.7m ahead of Obi of the LP.

Only Tinubu scored 25% votes or more in 2/3 of 37 federation units. Infact he did so in 29 out of 37 federation units. Atiku only managed it in 21 federation units while Obi managed it in 16 federation units, both failing to get to the 24 federation units threshold.

Only Tinubu won a region outside of his own half of the country. He won the highest votes in NorthWest and NorthCentral. Atiku did not win any zone in the South and Obi did not win any zone in the North.

Let the losers continue to waste away in their delusions that Tinubu was not the candidate to beat in the election and rightly the candidate they all failed to beat.

It is expected that an emotional debater would always avoid the rational and logical debater.

Toks obviously, this politics thing ain't your forte. I know you are pained by the Tribunal ruling but saying our Democracy is dead because of that is just base pessimism!
