Cameroon’s BIR forces this weekend launched series of attacks , recapturing the Abana region in Bakassi peninsula where rebels from Nigeria had taken as their safe haven.

The Black Marines, a pro- Biafra militia group had been living in the area for a while before they were pushed back by BIRS.

Reports indicate that Cameroonian troops have successfully dislodged members of a pro-Biafra separatist group known as Black Marine from Abana town, which was the former capital of the Bakassi Peninsula. This operation took place on Sunday morning.

According to eyewitnesses, the Rapid d’intervention Battalions (BIR) of Cameroon recaptured Abana from the pro-Biafra militants.

Authorities in Cameroon have reportedly deployed additional troops to the Isangele subdivision, surrounding the town, including the residential areas where oil companies operate.

Earlier, there were reports of a gun battle between the rebel group and the troops in Abana.

Henry Edet, identified as an operational coordinator of the Biafra National League, BNL, called on the Black Marine to retreat from Abana. Black Marine is said to be an arm of BNL.
