I'm reporting this evil with a heavy heart. I don't know who cursed a great state like Imo with terrible rulers. After we experienced same massive landgrabbing during the tenure of Rochas, another phase has started again in Imo State, particularly Owerri. There is disturbing reports from different parts of the city about how state owned lands is being dubiously given to individuals with connections to the state government.

Imo Transport Company (ITC), located inside
the metropolis at MCC road was suddenly relocated to Onitsha expressway. The former location at MCC was ideal and spacious enough for ITC without any issue of traffic jam. However, they relocated them to the outskirts of town. What are they going to do with the huge expanse of land left behind? Your guess is as good as mine! Unfortunately, that's one out of many!

On Monday, some individuals came to another government owned land, this time at Dan Anyiam Stadium. They told people that erected temporary structures by the fence to vacate before next week Saturday or else their structures and goods will be destroyed. Little did people know that these individuals working in cahoots with the management of Dan Anyiam Stadium, were already erecting another fence within the stadium premises. Their intention is to demolish the old fence afterwards thereby effectively grabbing a chunk of the stadium lands for their own private use. Reports has it that they intend to build a plaza there!

The question now is, who sanctioned these criminal acts against the state? Is the governor, Hope Uzodinma aware of these stealing of state resources going on with brazen impunity? Why is it that our neighboring states like Abia, Anambra and Ebonyi are enjoying good governance but here in Imo State, it is demolition upon demolition and stealing of government properties?

Who will save Imo State from all these sabotage and stealing?

Attached is picture of the Eastern section of Dan Anyiam stadium, close to Relief Market, that is about to be stolen.

Government has no land

I don't understand what you mean by that.

1. Land use act of 1979 vested all lands under direct control of state governments in Nigeria. That's why state governments can decide to build road on your land and pay you compensation.

2. Dan Anyiam Stadium is owned by the state government. State government is different from state governor. State government is an institution for the people it is not owned by any individual.

Unfortunately, people don't learn! Some "money miss road" will still go and buy. I heard another plaza they built at another section between the stadium and Relief market is going for 8 million per shop and almost all the shops have been bought!

Tomorrow another government will come and start demolishing again. SMH.

Don’t bother yourself fighting rotten apples. They will always fall by themselves.

ITC was relocated by Okorocha government to free up land at the city center and so was the Police headquaters , State High Court and Prisons joined with Shell Camp to create a new GRA. Ekeukwu market was demolished and also New Market to free up space and end street trading along Douglas road. The reason why Nigerian cities look funny is because people like you are comfortable with the status quo and feel threatened by radical steps to bring change. If not for those Okorocha bold moves Owerri today wouldn't have wide free roads that makes movement so easy. Ihedioha was the one who reversed the relocation of ITC and reopened Douglas to street trading and Ghetto status once again which gave Uzodinma the impetus to build another open market at Douglas and demolish the Hospital.

Uzodinma returning ITC to Onitsha road is a good development if the open space is ised for something usefullike spaced out green estate or a 30 floors highrise but building a plaza along Wetheral is typical Nigerian thrash. It is better to demolish all the shops around the Stadium and replace them with Greenfield , sculpture or Waterfalls that will beautify the city. Open markets shouldn't be along the roads but in fenced out area outside the city. Government lands are meant for development not just to lay fallow
