This hustle has been on even on NL since August 17, 2009, https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-311042.0.html Still no change! Spread the word!!! On October 24, 2011, the world is going to be reminded of Nigeria's failure to provide adequate and uninterrupted electricity to its over 150 million people despite the country's enviable position as Africa's oil giant and a major exporter of crude oil to the United States. At the beginning of February 2011, a group of Nigerians functioning under umbrella of Let There be Light In Nigeria Project Group, came together to organize a peaceful simultaneous march in major cities around the world to call attention to this basic, fundamental, inalienable and democratic right of a civilized society, Meet Your Anchors / Co-ordinators Abuja location Anchor/coordinator name - Barrister Kayode Ajulo Lagos location Anchor/coordinator name - Barrister Malachy Ugwumadu Port Harcourt location Anchor/coordinator name - Kingsley Okafor London location Anchor/coordinator name - Moses Owolabi Washington DC location Anchor/coordinator - Nnamdi Akwada New York location Anchor / coordinator name - Morris Akinfolarin Project Legal Advisor - Bamidele Aturu Esquire March Venues and Local Start Times Abuja:- 10am-11am - Assembly at the UNITY FOUNTAIN 11am-1pm March/Rally - NATIONAL ASSEMBLY ARCADE Lagos:- 10am-11am Assembly at the FRONT OF THE LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL 11am-1pm - March/Rally - STATE GOVT OFFICE ALAUSA, IKEJA Port Harcourt:- 10am-11am Assembly at the ISSAC BORO PARK 11am-1pm March/Rally - STATE GOVT OFFICE, STATION ROAD London:- 11am-1pm -Assembly/Rally-NIGERIA HIGH COMMISSION, 9 Northumberland Ave London. Lack of Electricity in Nigeria = Non existing manufacturing sector Joblessness Substandard Healthcare Facilities Poverty Armed Robbery Lack of infrastructure Average age life expectancy of 48yrs Lack of Security and many more, There is no nation on earth, that has subjected its people to such an enormous waste of talent and potential than the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Collectively, we are the custodians, keepers, and protectors of a country that is yet to live up to its promise. We are no longer going to settle for a country, that continues to explore and define its identity in darkness. The entire population of about 150 million uses, as much power grid as the area around Narita airport in Tokyo. South Africans consume 55 times more energy per head and Americans 100 times more" (The Economist - October 21, 2010). Resolving the issue of lack of electricity in Nigeria should be PRIORITY ONE!! |
