Mrfeel: I agree and if you pray, development will come as long as the govt is committed as well. Prayer isn't the antithesis of development and diligence. Stop the false reasoning, nobody forced you to pray, so leave those who are praying. |

I can guarantee you that a huge portion of that loan will got to the "cost of bad governance". It will not be used to develop the country but to enrich individuals. |

So someone is asking about how the nation’s economy is going, all you can say is “he shouldn’t indulge in things that don’t concern him” there will never be a bigger fool than you ever in the history of this world and in the future. 3 Likes |

Mrfeel: If something doesn't work for you, that doesn't mean it doesn't work for others. Once again, I can't force you to pray. You believe in hard work alone, some believe in prayer and hardwork and the grace that comes with it... Life is simple. |

If only younger Nigerians had an idea of what awaits them down the line. As some wise man said: "Those who do not learn from history are condemned to repeat it". Nigeria today is a mirror image of Nigeria in the early 1980s. We owed foreign banks a lot of money and we were finding it hard to pay because oil revenues were falling. The country was forced to adopt "austerity measures" and a highly controversial, World Bank designed "Structural Adjustment Programme" (SAP) in 1986. Only those who lived through the late 1980s and the 1990s can describe the pain of living through that period. During that time, nearly all of this country's forex earnings went towards paying foreign creditors, and of course living standards fell through the floor. The SAP had some conditions (for some reason they were called 'conditionalities') that Nigeria had to meet at great social and economic cost. Those were very trying times. We are now back there again. By the time over half (or even three quarters) of this country's foreign exchange earnings go towards debt servicing, year in year out (with no end in sight), Nigerians will understand what pain and suffering really is. Social and political instability is bound to increase over the next decade as the debt trap springs shut - and young people just starting out will indeed pay a heavy price. With over 70% of the population currently below 30 years of age, there is no way Nigeria will ever be stable under such tough economic conditions. Brace yourselves. |
