The Commissioner for Aviation and Technology in Ebonyi State, Mrs Ngozi Obichukwu, has said the state government will fix the worn-out runway of the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport, Onueke, with N13.7bn.

Obichukwu, who stated this in Abakaliki, on Tuesday, named Infrastructure Development Company as the contractor handling the project.

She said the project will take a maximum of eight months to be completed.

According to the Commissioner, the runway, when completed, will boost the economic viability and development of the state “by a greater percentage”.

She said, “The installation of the Asphalt plant is ongoing. The contractor has started casting the Asphalt plant base before the installation of the components. N13.7bn is involved.

“From my site seeing, I confirm some of their construction equipment that is on the ground such as excavator, bulldozer, pay-loader, crane, water tanker, truck, Bituminous tank and paver machine.

“More machines are still on the way coming such as vibration roller, milling machine, grader and others.

“The surveyor team has almost concluded its work on the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport runway readings. We are sure the contractor, IDC, will deliver on the quality project.”

This news is enough to provoke Ebonyi people against their wasteful government considering various studies and researches which indicates that Ebonyi state is one of the poorest in the country with AIT news showing data that Ebonyi indigenes make up to 60% of street hawkers in Nigeria.

Instead, you see them spewing hatred against Anambra state on various social media platforms as if Anambra is the cause of their backwardness.

I thought the ministry of works and China Zhonghao has finished the projects and contract earlier this year before the election commence.

Nna eh, this airport will eventually turn out to be Umahi's nemesis. 13 billion naira is too much to be wasted on an unviable project. Not to talk of the tens of billions already spent on the airport.

Chai, oku n'eri ego!
