Nigeria Wants to Be Part of BRICS Bloc in Two Years, Join G-20

- Africa’s most populous nation seeking to assert its leadership

- Plans to keep pressure on Niger to return to democratic rule

Nigeria will seek to become a member of the BRICS group of nations within the next two years as part of a new foreign policy push to have its voice heard in important global organizations.

The West African powerhouse will join every group that is open as long as the intentions are good, well-meaning and clearly defined, Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar said in an interview. “Nigeria has come of age to decide for itself who her partners should be and where they should be, and being multiple aligned is in our best interest,” Tuggar said.

Nigeria Wants to Join BRICS Within 2 Years

November 23, 2023

https://watcher.guru/news/nigeria-wants-to-join-brics-within-2-years

The West African nation, Nigeria had formally applied to join the BRICS bloc ahead of the 15th summit in August 2023. However, the alliance did not induct Nigeria but invited six new countries Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Argentina, Egypt, Iran, and Ethiopia to join the group. Argentina could be the only country to decline the BRICS membership next month and not be a part of the bloc.

A handful of developing countries are now looking to enter the grouping as it provides alternative trade and financial options. BRICS is convincing developing countries to ditch the US dollar and use local currencies to strengthen their native economies. The message seems promising as it breaks away from the US domination of the financial sector. Read here to know how many sectors in the US will be affected if BRICS stops using the dollar.
Nigeria is aiming to join BRICS and be a part of decision-making within the next two years. The African nation has set a timeline that they need to enter the alliance before 2025. Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the country’s foreign policy push is to make its voice heard in important financial matters of global organizations.

“Nigeria has come of age to decide for itself who her partners should be and where they should be. Being multiple aligned is in our best interest,” Tuggar said.

He added, “We need to belong to groups like BRICS, like the G-20 and all these other ones. Because if there’s a certain criteria, say the largest countries in terms of population and economy should belong, then why isn’t Nigeria part of it?”

Therefore, chances remain high that Nigeria could make its way into BRICS sooner or later. The country is dedicated to its mission and could also be a part of the de-dollarization efforts kick-started by BRICS.

This is why I laugh when I see some of these folks talking about Nigeria splitting up and everybody answering his father's name.

Nigeria will never break.

Not one inch of land will be ceded to become another country.

When you split up into little Sierra Leones and Liberias and Burkina Fasos, who will listen to you when you talk about joining BRICS or G20?

They will chase your president out of their office with koboko before he completes the sentence.

Once you break up, you're finished as a people.

Irrelevant in the international community.

You will not be at the table where international, world decisions are being made.

You will be under the table scrubbing the floor, eating the crumbs, and taking orders from Cyril Ramaphosa.

Mumu people.

But it's heard whenever it speaks on the world stage, every foreign direct investment (headquarters) is located in that small region. So shut up abeg

When has Singapore EVER ''spoken on the world stage'' and what did they say?

Who is their leader?

I don't even know.

Do you?

They are just a small city-state with 5 million people.

They are industrialised, but in today's world you need to have your voice at the table.

If it was just about being industrialised, China, India, SA, USA, UK, Brazil and others would have just sat at home and minded their own business, and there would be no BRICS or G20.

Singapore would LOVE to be in these groupings, but they lack the clout for it - too small.

Voice at the table? Is that the objective of joining BRICS?
Who voice epp? A country of 180 million generating paltry 5,000
megawatts is bringing only voice to the table. Pathetic.

Even when they push it to 20,000 mw, you will use 'bad roads' as your excuse.

When they fix the roads, you will say ''insecurity''.

When they fix insecurity, you will say ''inflation''.

So it's generally best to ignore your type. lipsrsealed

When they when they... When will the when come? They can't fix any you listed. Only good at voicing. It doesn't take anything special to talk. Actions are respected more than voice.

Mate, the person you're arguing with is right and you've got no point. Singapore is way smaller than Nigeria and it beats Nigeria in almost all aspects, from basic stuff to infrastructure to whatever you want to mention.

Nigeria on the other hand is supposed to be way ahead of where it is but corruption and your greedy leaders won't. Also people like you who would never slag them off. Do you know corruption is almost not on in Singapore. The other day the metro train had a problem and they made an announcement to everyone and even had free buses for those who wanted, that's called being accountable.

Again, Nigeria should be way past what you lot are celebrating. Come on, travel to other countries so you get my point. I don't see why you should be celebrating joining Brics like it's going to impact your day to day life or Nigeria's status in the scheme of things!

Stop writing jargon, I'm sure you've never been anywhere in your life. Singapore with no natural resources has managed itself to the point of being richer than the UK. World leaders respect countries with such leaders and that's what makes them a force to be reckoned with.

You are worse than brainless.

Singapore is an outlier nation in a sea of developing nations which constitute 80% of countries on Earth. She benefited by being a trading stopover and hub for world ships for centuries. She is a special case.

Why are her neighbours like Cambodia, Myanmar, Nepal, Vietnam etc, not like her?

JUST SHUT UP. YOU DON’T KNOW ANYTHING.

Very dumb argument putting the cart before the horse.

You join groups like BRICS in order to influence the wave of investment and partnerships required to build the nation.

If everything was already perfect like your dumb face is demanding, there would be no need for economic association.
