Authorities from the Drainage Enforcement and Compliance Department of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources have issued a cease-work directive to a developer located along System 156, behind Victoria Crest Estate II in the Lekki region of the state.

The directive was issued due to the developer's unauthorised activities, including illegal sand filling of the channel which was carried out without obtaining the necessary approval from the state authorities.

The Commissioner, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shared photos on his social media handle to make this known on Friday, December 1.

He wrote:

Operatives of Drainage Enforcement and Compliance dept from the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources on Thursday (30/11/2023) issued a STOP WORK ORDER to a developer along System 156 behind Victoria Crest Estate II in Lekki for illegally sandfilling the channel and carrying out reclamation work without any approval from the state.

Truely to some extent, Lagos is no man's land because WTF is this.
Some people could not leave their houses for weeks this year due to flooding and govt is still allowing some people to block water ways.
People doing this kind of nonsense will be jailed in saner climes. Land never finish for Nigeria!

Really shocking Lagos allowed this dangerous impunity to go on for so long. No enduring institutional integrity in Nigeria.

All we have is gra-gra , occasionally and usually with change of administrative leaders, that lack of institutional integrity will compromise eventually.

There is simply no way thing could have gotten this bad had the relevant agencies been doing their jobs diligently, conscientiously and professionally day in and day out,
every month and every year.

We all know that water will always find it's way leading to heavy flooding in other areas along the route.
