Authorities from the Drainage Enforcement and Compliance Department of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources have issued a cease-work directive to a developer located along System 156, behind Victoria Crest Estate II in the Lekki region of the state.

The directive was issued due to the developer's unauthorised activities, including illegal sand filling of the channel which was carried out without obtaining the necessary approval from the state authorities.

The Commissioner, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shared photos on his social media handle to make this known on Friday, December 1.

He wrote:

There is clearly a gap somewhere in the whole process, Nigerians sef don't hear word, so until the government starts ensuring CONSEQUENCES for developers and builders flouting laws, nothing will change. Same way buildings were collapsing left right and center in recent years including one at Ikoyi. There is a gap somewhere and it needs to be fixed for everyone's safety.

Same people that have no hopes of ever buying one block not to talk of buying cement in their generation would always rejoice when they see people houses being destroyed because they don’t know what it costs to build a house but evil everywhere goes round like a Russian roulette. After all the demolition fashola did, was it able to make his people equal to Igbos? It rather pushed them deeper into poverty, bitterness and frustration with their lives. All those idiots rejoicing today will also cry on pay day . There os a growing number of Yorubas moving to south east now. Everybody go chop their own breakfast las las

We hope they will listen

is it the developers that don't listen or the Lagos state government officials that allow them to contravene building regulations in exchange for bribes?

have you gone to all those areas that were swamps and have all now been sand filled? there is absolutely no regulation. everyone is just buidling as they like

How do one even map out this expanse of land just for drainage?
If that's what will stop flood, is it a bad thing? Cities with high population is prone to flooding

Demolition alone is not enough.. Lagos State House of Assembly should enact laws to jail developers and owners of these illigal structures for at least 10 years.

Take back Lagos!

Send these fo0ls packing.

what about those giving them approval to build even when its against building regulations?

should they also be sent packing?

Nobody is giving them approval... don't get it twisted.

Many of them know those houses will be demolished.. It's sheer stupidity that is affecting most of them.

Nigeria is an heterogeneous society and we are difficult people. It’s not a country but a mere geographical representation as said by Awolowo. We only have th country to identify with. That’s why it’s difficult for real developmental take place.
Leaders sometimes want to do the right thing but the fear of wha the citizen will say drift them back. Most decisions will always have a backlash. We had no good foundation and we are living with poor institutional setups which had been years on remnants. Consequent to that, most good policy would hurt the people and the elites are going to be the receivers of the backlash.
They had wanted to do this long ago but the fear of Tinubu wanting to be president and ho people are the demolitions is the brainchild of Tinubu had stopped them.

This is why it’s being carried out after Tinubu had become the President. Expect more tough decisions in Lagos in times to come.

1. how are they able to build so many houses without the knowledge of the government?

2. who are the "many of them" that know that those houses will be demolished and how do they know that the houses will be demolished?

3. "sheer stupidity" in what sense?

This is the big issue here. They mostly won't listen or adhere to these orders but rather go behind to bribe unscrupulous elements in the regulatory agencies and resume work.

Most dumbest and dullest commissioner ever. Illiterate commissioner forming woke.

Do your work and stop showing people nonsense. Even if you reduced all the buildings in Lagos to smithereens, heaven won't fall, so go on with your unprofessional method of tackling problems.
Sorry for your demolished property, the reason for transfer of pain on decision well taken.

Actually, I don't think its an igbo /Yorba thing, houses if Yorba landlords got demolished as well, its a law thing, the problem is the system ,agencies don't approve building plans or give it out, most of the houses you see around aren't built with an approval, estate agencies package those areas and sell them to unsuspecting people.

Truth is, even if its a tribal battle, I think the igbos won, because you must really own a lot to leave your place, come to another man place, buy his land in a big area and push the indigenes.further into the creeks.
