Funflipper:I never say so, I only told you the only condition they could be arrested. If he is on duty with military uniform, they won't but rather signal his station. But off duty, they will arrest, and notify his base, immediately. Just like this arrest by Sanwo Olu, the police/DSS or the governor can't keep him with them, they will notify his base. Had it been he is on uniform, they there not touch him, the governor would rather question him, get his service number and report him to his superior. 1 Like |

Maxtipulation:Having ID is irrelevant According to your logic a soldier with Id can go and remove an ATM MACHINE ,take it to his house and the police will bring out their phones to film him. He is untouchable? The only time a soldier cannot be arrested by civilian authorities is when he is officially deployed on active duty. If he goes amok in civilian space even civilians can arrest him 5 Likes |

Funflipper: You can’t see such act from both the military and governor abroad, both were wrong. 2 wrongs don’t make right. Chasing on one way to catch someone is wrong doing, uk police will never use one way to chase, highest they use serene to clear road. Until we behave like humans, las las na zoo Una Dey. President Wey Dey say snatch it, take it, grab it, run away with it win election. Una Dey expect decorum from citizens? Naaaaaaaaaa |

Hurbashola:Is this young man talking carelessly and brusquely in the video just a cadet or a soldier? What ever he is, he should get ready to get detained in the guard room and face suspension or outsight dismissal from the Army. Such characters are NOT acceptable in the military. Military personel must obey laws and subordinate themselves in any civilian government dispensation. The days of military rule and the attendant mass indiscipline and corruption we witnessed from a lot of them back in the 1970s to 1999 are over. Period. |

The same constitution that empowers the soldiers to function in their capacity also empowers the Governor of a State to function in his capacity.. Apparently, the lance corporal arrested is a wounded soldier which is the reason for the colleague's outburst. The part where the soldier said Lagos too dey enjoy peace cracked me up.. Truly, North Eastern Governors don't have the luxury of going about in their States without heavy security. |

Two things..it is either the guy is not a soldier but a vessel used by soldiers just to speak on the matter. Or the guy is a very dull soldier who will eventually be identified and properly dealt with. |

mamaafrik: Fashola famously arrested an army colonel using the BRT lane during his tenure, so being in uniform won't change anything. (A Colonel is just a rank below a Brigadier General.) It's also false that ambulances and other vehicles on emergency assignments are allowed to pass one way. They are not. 2 Likes

federal9:I’m particularly interested in @bolded Please, from which part of the constitution did you get that statement from sir? You mean an Indiana or Montana state police can’t arrest an erring federal worker or that the mayor of a state can’t arrest you for flouting the law of the land just because you are employed by the president? This nairaland ehn, Una go just come online and start to dey cap rubbish There’s nothing wrong with what the governor did and if Nigeria were to be a working and sane society, the mumu soldier would rather maintain low profile and would not even dare to bring the military into the mess because that alone is enough to get him relieved. |

ehikwe22:Well said @ehikwe22, I'm on the same page with what you posted here. Below is a viral video from January 2020 of some highly indisciplined young army cadets who blocked the expressway and caused a traffic gridlock. The Nigerian cadets parked their cars on the road, dancing in the traffic jam on the expressway because according to them, “civilians can’t do anything.” One of the silly cadets was busy bullying and insulting from a distance a driver who horned by referring to him as a bloody civilian and a bastard. The army recruitment is just like a campus gang or neighborhood gang "brainwashing of the mind" movement that emphasizes gross indiscipline towards the wider society simply because of the guns they wield. After witnessing military governments in Nigeria from the 1970s to 1999, I've always cautioned these young ones calling for military coups because of the loss of freedom of speech by members of the society and the spikes in corruption and indiscipline in the military governments. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRlpGlVntB8 2 Likes 1 Share

The Soldier is saying what he said because we are in a lawless Country where the people that are supposed to show good example are the one constituting nuisance and breaking the rules/laws, start seeing themselves as been above the law. US military were well respected not because they force it but they earn through the act of discipline they display. Hurbashola: |

Hurbashola: Abi na today you people understood that northern Nigerians, especially those from the NW region, see soldiers as being above all constituted authorities in Nigeria? They see all Nigeria as their conquered territory. Una go form political alliance with a section of Nigeria that does not believe in democracy but believes only in military conquests. Why protest now? 1 Like |
