It is impossible to track the money in an open market as wide as West Africa is. They can cross border to go exchange it in another country. So tracking the money, that's not effective. Besides, they will launder that money....very likely buying weapons and logistics for future kidnap operations. Forget about the money itself. Focus on tracking the individuals themselves.

Sniffer dogs, data packet sniffers, trained tracking birds, drones, etc... this is the way to go.

Don't you know that criminals see everybody as a suspect to them.
They will spend the money without going to bank. Remember they collect in cash, not through banking system, and as such do you expect them to go and deposit it in the bank. People that even have special advisor.

Whilst we sympathize with various kidnapped victims, it's important that we hold our security agencies responsible for failing in their job. I mean how worse can things get? These kidnappers have become so brazen that they now operate freely without any fear. Our security architecture (if at all we have any) has to be dismantled and restructured because it's obviously not working.

Secondly, I think paying of ransome should become a criminal offence. In case you don't know, by paying ransome, we are enabling the terrorists, bandits and kidnappers by providing them with the much needed funds to continue to expand their operations.

Now, to answer the original question; what will the kidnappers do with the 60m ransome? They will buy more sophisticated weapons, recruit more kidnappers and settle all their 'people' that participated in the operation. Is this not enough morale booster to continue in that illicit business?
