The Majority Leader Edo State House of Assembly and Member representing Ovia North-East One Constituency, Hon.(Barr.) Charity Iguodala Aiguobarueghian yesterday moved a motion for the house to grant a speedy approval to the applications from Edo State Government seeking for approval for facilities to address the needs and plights of Edo people due to the hardship Nigerians are currently facing as a result of the Federal Government subsidy removal policy brought about by Tinubu-led administration resulting to the high increase in the prices of public goods, high cost of living leading to poverty.

Why speaking, the Majority Leader highlighted that sequel to the subsidy removal, the state government led by Governor Godwin Obaseki has been notable in putting measures on ground to reduce the hardship, including making the state own Edo City Transport Service (ECTS) buses available for Edo citizens, to transport them freely from one location to another in order to cushion the effects of the suffering caused by the subsidy removal, Barr. Aiguobarueghian added that if the application is granted by the honourable house, it will enable state government procure the 50 CNG buses and construct roads and drainags in the new Coral City in Benin, that will go a long way to further ameliorate the suffering of the Edo residents, he concluded by saying that there is need to meet the gap, since the money appropriated for it is not readily available for now.

Seconding the motion, the honourable member representing Ikpoba-Okha constituency, Hon. Nicholas Asonsere said the request should be granted, furthermore, he revealed that there are 3 ways government source for funds, it's either from the federal allocation, internally generated revenues or through loans, he therefore urged his colleagues to support the motion to enable the Governor finish well.

Other members who spoke in support of the motion include Hon.(Dr.) Richard Edosa, the Deputy Speaker, Rt.Hon.(Mrs) Mariam Edekor, they both agreed that facilities will go a long way in addressing the challenges the people are currently facing due to the hardship caused by the effects of the subsidy removal.

On his part, the Speaker, Rt.Hon. Blessing Agbebaku appealed to the lawmakers to support the motion, he assured them that the facilities will take care of one or two projects in their various individual constituency if granted by the house.

Speaking further, the Speaker frowned at the ugly situation in Edo State today and Nigeria in general, whereby Nigerians have money in their various bank accounts but can't access their money when they are in need of the cash, but when you go to occasions, you will see "money vendors" selling cash at a very high cost, he assured the people of the State that, the house will soon come together and put a stop to ugly scenario.

The house in its magnanimity also approved the application of over N9 billion as contractor, finance and bank guarantee loan from First bank for the state government to construct some housing units in Asokoro, Abuja.

In another development, the Majority Leader Barr. Aiguobarueghian also moved a motion for the adoption of the new calendar for the third quarter of the legislative year of the 8th Assembly in this quarter which encompasses February 19 days, March 21 days and April 21 days as well as the yesterday's January 29th special section amounting to 62 days, the motion was seconded by Member representing Etsako East Constituency, Hon. Kingsley Ugabi, the Majority Leader revealed that, if the proposed 62 dags is achieved in addition with the 55 days seatings each in the first and second quarters of this 8th Assembly amount to 172 days, he said; it will set the honourable house out as a house that is diligent and dedicated, the motion was unanimously adopted by the house.

Seating was thereafter adjourned to Monday 5th February 2024, by 10 am.
