Two Students of the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, have died after reportedly inhaling fumes from a generator.

The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya confirmed this in a telephone interview with DAILY POST on Thursday evening.

Aya disclosed that the victims were identified as Bilikisu Tijani Eleojo, 20 years old, and Ibrahim Haliru.

According to him, a generating set was close to the window of the deceased victims, before they slept off.

The lifeless bodies of the duo were reportedly recovered in the room by neighbours in the early hours of the day.

“There were three students from Kogi Polytechnic inside the room. One Bilikisu Tijani Eleojo, 20 years old, Ibrahim Haliru and Mercy Ojochegbe.

“When they slept inside their room, a generator was switched on close to the window of their apartment.

“They all slept off and inhaled carbon monoxide as a result of the generator set that was on.

“Bilikisu Tijani Eleojo and Ibrahim Haliru were already dead when neighbors discovered the sad incident in the morning, while Mercy Ojochegbe who was still breathing was immediately rushed to the hospital.

“The incident was reported at the B division of the Nigeria Police Force, Lokoja and investigation is ongoing,” he stated.

He admonished residents to always be safety conscious to avert carbon monoxide poisoning in their homes.

He said, “People should be very careful once they are using a generator set in their homes.

“They should give it a distance and also it should not be closer to the window where they are living.

“Some may say because of the fear that people will come and steal the generator, they won’t apply these safety precautions. It is wrong.

“It is when someone is alive that he or she would be able to accomplish things in this world. Safety should always be our watchword.”

When will Nigerians start to truly believe and know that generator fumes kill?

You will see some people actually putting the generator inside their rooms/living rooms and sleep!!
That is absurd mehn!!

Don't let us be the Generator Republic that those Banana Banana Republic referred us as biko.

Hespee93:

That's how my caretaker went ahead and placed his noisy generator close to my window.

On opening my door, smoke already fill everywhere.

I quickly alert him and also send pictures to the landload to warn him against the nonsense he wants to engaged in.
You did the right thing bro.
That is why the phrase say ," a closed mouth is a closed destiny ".
You just saved your life Hespee.

Meanwhile,
The phrase “a closed mouth is a closed destiny” suggests that when you don't express yourself, share your ideas, or communicate your desires, you might hinder your own progress and limit the possibilities that could have otherwise been available to you.
And it could lead to death!!!

There needs to be proper orientation/enlightenment on this issue of generator fumes. Always keep your generators outside away from windows, no come commit hara-kiri because of securing your generator.
NOA is just another government agency that is practically useless.

Sigh... Yet, some so called 'Patriots' were triggered that their beloved country was tagged "Generator Republic" by South Africans.

I mean... Where else do Generator fumes kill young and old people on Planet Earth?!! undecided

One of the biggest shame of our old foolîsh senile rulers is this issue of electricity.

It's so shameful for a country like Nigeria to still be living like this.

Many African countries that can't even stand us in anything are making mockery of us:
Cameroon
Ghana
Benin Republic etc

Yesterday, South Africa made a national show for us calling us generator Republic.
All the saboteurs of this electricity projects when caught should be kìlled immediately without trials.

People would destroy transformer, steal cables, by pass prepaid meters etc.

Electricity is something so basic that many countries of the world have solved many years ago.

We spend so much in this country buying Generators, maintaining it & fueling it. Money that should have been channelled into providing stable power supply.
