Today, we embarked on a thorough inspection and closely monitored the ongoing cleanup operations at both the Obalende under-bridge and Ijora under-bridge, currently being revitalized by the Ministry of Environment.

During the assessment, I addressed illegal occupants at the Ijora under-bridge, emphasizing the importance of the cleanup efforts. I made it clear that a range of recreational activities would be established beneath the bridges and no individual would be permitted to reside or slumber beneath these structures in the future.

This initiative aims to transform these spaces into vibrant, safe areas for the community.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, alongside his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, among other state officials, on Sunday, inspected the ongoing cleanup at Obalende under-bridge and Ijora Causeway under-bridge.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Jubril Gawat, disclosed this in posts on his X handle on Sunday.

He wrote, "Governor of Lagos State, Mr #jidesanwoolu, today at the Obalende Under-bridge, which is undergoing extensive cleanup by the Ministry of Environment and the Special Taskforce. "Mr Governor is on an inspection to the site, to see the level of work done.

"Governor of Lagos State, Mr #jidesanwoolu, reading the riot act to the occupants at the Ijora Under-bridge, which is also undergoing extensive cleanup by the Ministry of Environment and the Special Taskforce.

"Mr Governor says there will be different kinds of recreational activities created under the bridge and that nobody will be allowed to sleep or live under the bridges anymore."

According to the Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, other officials who accompanied the governor on the inspection include the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab; the Commissioner for Transportation, Seun Osiyemi; and other stakeholders.

PUNCH Online reported on Saturday that the Lagos State Government has commenced the clean-up of shanties occupied by squatters under the Obalende Bridge in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of the state.

In a similar development, after a five-day quit notice, the government destroyed and cleared illegal shanties occupied by squatters under the the Ijora Bridge and announced its plan to convert the area to a recreational space.

For most people returning home late from work or leaving early those places are safe havens for miscreants, urchins and criminals under the influence of hard drugs and alcohol. A good step in the right direction.

Lagos needs fundamental clean up mechanics. She is over populated. Depopulation policies need to be instituted.

Hmmm.the host tribe people mocking other sets and tribes in Lagos are the ones in disparity now. We ronu this we ronu that. Go back to your region and all of that. See the way the system and nature is threatening and treating them mostly. They're still crying ebin mpa wa and lamentations on their lips all day
. The hardship is still confusing them. Now they're being expunged off from their dirty shanties.

And we all knows the tribe dominating those places. It's really too much for them.

Election indeed has consequences. No more go back to your region again.😄

Baba it's because people are suffering and hungry that's the reason those things are happening in the dark. In Lagos robbery is everywhere, inside taxis and buses, at home, in the streets. Times are hard boy!
