Bayobab, a pan-African digital connectivity solutions provider, has partnered with MTN Nigeria to land a 45,000km subsea cable in Nigeria.

According to a statement from MTN, the cable known as ‘2Africa,’ has its landing station at Mopo-Onibeju Lekki area of Lagos.

2Africa is said to be the longest under-water cable in the world, passing through three continents and 33 countries, several of which are in Africa; expanding the rapidly growing African digital economy and positively impacting growth across the continent.

According to Josephine Sarouk, Managing Director, Bayobab Nigeria, the cable will directly support economic development in Africa, fostering further growth of 4G, 5G and increased broadband penetration to millions of people and businesses.

Bayobab’s investments
Commenting on the company’s investments in subsea cables, Sarouk said:

“Bayobab has invested in a myriad of submarine cables to boost much-needed broadband capacity to the continent; and bolster efforts to leverage technology to connect the unconnected in Africa and beyond” and “
"The landing of 2Africa in Nigeria will supercharge Nigeria’s digital economy, creating space for a vibrant ecosystem bringing digital services to millions of Nigerians in line with the government’s vision for a thriving digital economy.

“Our investment in 2Africa is part of our commitment to our customers, bringing resilience to networks and capacity due to the growing demands for digital services such as Fintech, IOT, AI, e-learning, which continue to revolutionise the way customers engage with services, fueling the demand for more data.
This landing is further proof of our long-held confidence in the future of the continent.”
Increased capacity.

The landing of the cable means that Nigerian service providers can access capacity in an open-access cable landing station on a fair and equitable basis.

This supports healthy ecosystem development by facilitating greatly improved quality and accessibility of internet connectivity for consumers and local businesses across all sectors.

This milestone achievement by Bayobab and MTN Nigeria will spur economic growth, innovation, and development in the nation.

Nice one in Lagos

I want Lagos to be the new York city of Africa, they can attain such feat being the richest state in Nigeria.

We all should be happy and rejoice when something positive happens anywhere in Nigeria, our people should desist from unnecessary rancour.

Bayobab, MTN gives the impression that these are two distinct companies.

MTN globalconnect rebranded as Bayobab. Essentially, this was MTN through and through.

Big kudos

just shut up. No one hates Nigeria and you don't love Nigeria more than any of us.

The real situation is what is pushing people into saying terrible things about this country. The inability of our leaders to truly push this country to its place and the difficulty people experience in getting basic things of life. Millions of people in Nigeria will sleep tonight without electricity and more people will wake up tomorrow morning not knowing where the meal is coming from.

So just shut up and shut it perfectly

You are just another useless and worthless talker. Because Fibre optic cable landed in Lagos doesn't mean Lagos is the primary beneficiary of the service. Oloriburuku, don't go appeal to your slave-master Jagaban to resolve the forex crisis be there and be capping nonsense

Oga which enemies of Nigeria? You keep making imaginary enemies, also in the first place what will make them invest in Lagos when the economic indices of Nigeria is messed up? Do you know how many businesses in Lagos have closed down? Look at PZ their quarterly profit was eroded in one month, that they recorded an annual loss and you are here saying invest in Lagos. Oga Park well abeg your partisan behavior stinks.

We don't want investments from people who hate Lagos and the owners of the land. It is in the interest of such people to take their investments to the place they love and they love the people who own such a place because if you hate the owners of the land their land will not bless you. It applies to everyone regardless of tribe or nationality.

I know foreigners who love Nigeria more than some Nigerians and I ask them why, the common reply I get is " the Land blessed me and my family".
