Ayo Adebanjo, chieftain of Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, says hunger protests, insecurity challenges and the slide of the naira are signs that Nigeria is heading for a collapse.

Adebanjo, who spoke with TheCable on Saturday, said until Nigeria’s constitution is restructured to reflect true federalism, the country would not enjoy peace.

The elder statesman’s comments come amid the plan by the national assembly to amend the 1999 constitution. With 40 amendment bills received so far, the constitution review committee is expected to be inaugurated on Monday, February 26.

While calling for the outright overhaul of the 1999 constitution, Adebanjo said no matter the amendments done, nothing will work as it should.

The issue of insecurity and bad economy are products of the fraudulent constitution that we are using. There can be no progress until that constitution is thoroughly changed. A surgical operation must be done on that constitution,” he said.

“Until they bring down this constitution and we have a new beginning, we can’t make any headway. You are just patching things up, amending a constitution that you didn’t make. You are amending a constitution that is already broken-down.

“They will talk of state police today, resource control tomorrow and then they will take the constitution amendment to the parliament. Yet, the parliament is a product of fraud.

"No matter what they are doing, it can’t work.”

Adebanjo added that the solution is to “change the constitution back to federalism”.

“Let all the federating states be autonomous. Let’s go back to the 1963 constitution. No more, no less. Anything short of that, you are just wasting your time,” he said.

Respect to this great father of the nation.
It is a great privilege for tge yoruba people and the nation of Nigeria at large to have you alive.

Pa Adebanjo is one of the very few fathers that saw beyond tribe, religion and all that to stand and speak boldly against the evils of the last elections.

He was insulted and called all sorts of names by some of his people but today EBBINPAWA has shown them renewed shege and now tgey wish they had listened to this great father of the nation.

Pa Adebanjo I greet and salute you sir.
You are a great and gracious assest this generation.

The man begged and cried to all Nigerians to reject Tinubu because he's a failure but someone Tinubu managed to snatch power through the Corrupt INEC chairman. Now see how the country has turned out under this mistake of a president .

Hehehe.

Pa Adebanjo is an IPOB man,his father is from the east,so says APC supporters grin tongue.

Once you say the truth, you are now an enemy of the country.

Baba, you have done your best. I remember all your warnings during campaign. They called you names, today all you said have come to pass.

They will still not take your advice, instead they will continue to use propaganda and fire brigade approach to run Nigeria.

Pa Adebanjo is a great patriot who loves and cares for Nigeria. During the campaign period, this great man went as far as begging Nigerians to vote wisely that it is us the younger generation that will enjoy the benefits if we voted wisely, that he might be in his grave in near future since he is already old. Now everything this wise man warned us about Ebola Tinubu is happening before our very eyes. Pa Adebanjo is richly blessed that he will not be feeling the impact of the great Tinubulation. It is the people who supported this monumental failure that are now crying ebin pawa o everyday. Posterity will be kind to you and your generation Pa Adebanjo.

It is not only PA Adebanjo, it biggest critics of this administration are the yorubas.
The ebi n pawa slogan by the yorubas was made to send a message to the president that things are not alright with the people (every body) .

But some bitter ignorant miscreants are now claiming that only the SW are feeling the negative effects of balablu's maladministration whereas the hardship cuts across every nook and cranny of the federation.

Yorubas generally don't support you when you are doing wrong even if you are their own brother.

That is what distinguish them from the igbos and the hausas/fulanis.

I just hope you won't turn around and insult this old man if he criticize your choice of leaders in the near future?

PA Adebanjo always criticize bad leaders no matter where the person comes from.
Baba criticism OBJ too when he was pushing for third terms in office.

Although he is not tribalistic, he is also not daft and stupid.

Keep quiet oga. The average yoruba is a tribalistic being in nature.

The average yoruba man will support evil because the person is his brother.
That does not mean they are no sane ones.
The likes of pa Adebanjo, Pa Babalola, president obasanjo and some other few who are not known in the media space are Examples.

The average ibo man will go against his own brother if he sees him in evil.
The average Ibo man wahala is that he is ready to make money by any means possible even through dubious ways.

The average northerner is kind. Very kind and helpful even when they dont know you.
The problem of the average northerner is religion. The one who is friendly to you today could be the one that will throw you off in a religious crisis.

Mr. Adebanjos call for true federalism and a return to the 1963 constitution is a valid solution to Nigerias current issues and should be seriously considered by the national assembly.

Why do you people like to lie to yourself. The people below are what?

- You people still practice the cast system in your region.
- Peter Obi your messiah was busy using anti Yoruba to campaign for APGA during his tenure
- Peter Obi your messiah wouldn't let non-Anambrans hold any political post including the ones in the market
- You all shit on Ebonyi people every day
- Your pastors tribally insults the Fulani Hausa everytime they go on the pulpit. E.g
Ebube's 1 Ibo man equals 500 Hausa men

We can go on and on.

You can only deceive the gullible.
