The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has acknowledged that President Bola Tinubu is currently encountering challenges.

In response, Idris clarified that the acceptance of grains from Ukraine by Nigeria should not be interpreted as a sign of weakness or an indication of a failed state.

Earlier, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), criticized Nigeria's decision to accept grains from Ukraine, deeming it disheartening.

Addressing the Leadership Annual Conference and Award 2023 in Abuja on Tuesday, the minister contradicted Obi's assertion, underscoring that Egypt, despite receiving approximately 60 percent of its grains from Ukraine, is not deemed a failed state.

Idris elaborated, stating, "The fact that Nigeria is presently facing challenges does not label it a failed state. Therefore, the acceptance of grains from Ukraine does not categorize Nigeria or Egypt as failed nations."

He emphasized the customary practice of countries depending on each other, using Egypt's reliance on Ukraine for grains as an illustration.

Recognizing Nigeria's challenges, Idris assured that President Bola Tinubu is cognizant of the situation and actively working to address it. He reiterated that Nigerians voted for Tinubu with confidence in his ability to bring about positive change, a commitment that he is diligently fulfilling.

If the woman in enugu that commit suicide because of hunger would have been alive if she has grains from Ukraine, the boy in Abia by his father because of hunger would have been alive if he has grains from Ukraine

I heard Peter Obi say that the grains were a sympathetic gift to Nigeria to alleviate hunger in the land. Hence we are not paying for it. This is the main point. It's a shame that we are taking alms while we are not at war and from a country that has been at war for years. No need for arguments. We should do the right thing by bringing the right people to govern and beautiful country
