Paul admonished that if a man desires the office of a bishop, among other things, he should be the husband of one wife. Sorry sir it is you who do not understand the scriptures. Paul at that time was talking to old time Jews who are wrongly indoctrinated from the start. This means that majority of them already had more than one wife from what they learnt at the era of Moses. But the bible said it is because of the hardness of their hearts. So Paul is admonishing Timothy that if a man has more than one wife already he can not be made a bishop. These were men who were already soaked with their old pattern and knowledge that's why Jesus was correcting them in Mtt chapter19 about the correct doctrine of marriage, and not what they used to know. Apart from this thing I said now, if the position of a bishop is a good thing and the bible recomends only a man with one wife, are you then wiser than God? Or do you have forbear for good things?
