The National Constitutional Dialogue convened at the prestigious Nigerian Institute of International Affairs in Lagos on Monday, March 18, 2024, witnessed a gathering of distinguished leaders, including Senator Otunba Engr. Gbenga Daniel, FNSE, and notable dignitaries such as Chief Emeka Anyaoku, GCON, CFR, Obong Victor Attah, Senator Aminu Tanbuwal, Chief Olabode George, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and Otunba Segun Sowunmi, among others. The event was held in honour of Professor Nwabueze, the pioneering Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

This assembly marked a significant milestone in Nigeria’s political discourse, as leaders from diverse backgrounds came together to engage in critical discussions on the nation’s constitutional framework. Addressing pressing issues related to governance, democracy, and constitutional reforms, the dialogue aimed to foster consensus and outline a path toward a more inclusive and responsive governance structure.

With the participation of prominent political figures, scholars, and civil society representatives, the National Constitutional Dialogue served as a platform for robust deliberations and constructive engagements. The event highlighted the need for a transparent and participatory approach to constitutional reform, reflecting the aspirations of all Nigerians.

As the dialogue concluded, participants expressed optimism about the prospects for meaningful reforms and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing democratic principles, the rule of law, and good governance in Nigeria. The National Constitutional Dialogue represented a significant stride in ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic institutions and uphold the rights and freedoms of its citizens.

Other eminent personalities present were Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo; Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozekhome; Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Chief Bode George; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Donald Duke of Cross River; Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti; James Ibori of Delta; Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers; Rauf Aregbesola of Osun; and Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun.

The event honoured Professor Nwabueze, a pioneering figure in Nigerian politics and law, who served as the pioneer Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and was a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. Professor Nwabueze, aged 92, passed away on October 28, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of profound contributions to the nation
