A' IBOM STATE GOVERNMENT COMMENDS OKOBO TRANSITION CHAIRMAN'S EFFORT IN
SETTLEMENT OF OKOPEDI/AMAMMONG BOUNDARY DISPUTES

Akwa Ibom State Deputy Governor, H.E. Senator Mrs. Akon Eyakenyi has applauded the role being played by the Transition Chairman of Okobo Local Government Area, Hon. Engr. George Henshaw in the settlement process of the communal boundary dispute between Okopedi and Amammong communities, describing the efforts as highly commendable.

The deputy governor who made the remark on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 when she embarked on inspection tour of the 3.1km Okopedi and Amammong boundary access road opened up by the Transition Chairman as part of efforts to put to an end the perennial land boundary dispute, promised to continue to work with the local government council and other partners to ensure permanent peace return to the two neighbouring communities.

The Deputy Governor who was represented at the inspection visit by her Special Adviser on Boundary Matters, Elder Okokon Uffi, also appreciated the people of Okopedi and Amammong for supporting the boundary demarcation and embracing peace, praised the leadership of the communities for being magnanimous to shift grounds, leading to speedy resolution of the crisis and demarcation of the boundaries.

On his part, the Transition Chairman, Hon. Engr. George Henshaw, appreciated the State Government for the support given to the local government in it's efforts to put an end to the perennial land dispute between Okopedi and Amammong, said the two communities, had agreed on a common boundary that can engender peaceful co-existence between them.

Engr, George Henshaw commended Governor Umo Eno’s administration for being keen about peace and security in all towns, saying this accounted for why the land tussle was resolved amicably.

Present during the inspection tour were, the Vice Chairman of Okobo Local Government Transition Committee, Mr. Anthony Antigha, Head of Environmental Services, Mrs Arit Effiong, Supervisor for Health, Apostle Wisdom Ekong, representative of Okopedi and Amammong communities, security agents, among others.
