Suspected Kidnappers Kill Babcock University Law Professor, Olomojobi In Ogun

The authorities of the Babcock University, Ogun State, have announced the loss of Prof. Yinka Olomojobi, a professor of human rights and gender law to suspected kidnappers.

Announcing his loss in a statement on Monday, the university described his killing as most savage, noting that law enforcement agencies in conjunction with the Ogun State government were on the trail of the perpetrators.

In the statement signed by Director, Marketing & Communication, Dr Joshua Suleiman, the university explained that the tragic incident occurred in Iperu town between 8pm and 9pm last Friday, April 19, 2024 along Iperu-Sagamu Road, 8 kilometres from Ilisan-Remo campus, and 3 kilometres from Iperu campus of Babcock University, Ogun State.

"This came as a rude shock to the entire university community which has been thrown into mourning," the statement noted.

"The Nigeria Police Force is investigating the act of utmost savagery by these suspected kidnappers. The law enforcement agencies in conjunction with the Ogun State government are reportedly on the trail of the perpetrators and more men and women of the security agencies have been deployed to ensure the maximum safety of lives and property in the entire axis of the state.

"Prof. Olomojobi, who began his career in Babcock University on April 1, 2011, was a vibrant personality who gave his all to imparting knowledge and empowering young people of the university where he taught.

"He had his Bachelor's degree in Law: (LLB) from the Ogun State University, (1985-1990) and his Masters and doctoral degree programmes (2006-2010) from the University of Liverpool and Lancaster University, England respectively.

"The University commiserates with his family, friends, faculty, staff and students at this time of grief and prays for God's comfort and courage to bear the loss."

The university, however, assured all its stakeholders - students, parents, host community, faculty and staff that it will continue to collaborate with all government security and local vigilance agencies to ensure the maximum protection of lives and property within and around the university environment.

"The partnership with our stakeholders over the years has yielded positive outcomes, and we will continue to explore greater collaborative endeavours to ensure a safer, learning, and living space for all."

sad

When Sunday igboho warned them not to allow Fulani entry into Ogun state, the DSS came after him.

Today, the DSS and police including the army cannot be there to save anyone from the killer Fulani herdsmen anytime they struck.

Now I want to hear the opinion of the IG again on whether state policing is needed or not, cos I wonder why the FG police can't rescue the man.

We can't continue like this.
We must try something else

Death penalty doesnt mean they will die. The will just be on deathrow till Governor or President pardon them or they escape.

This must be seriously investigated and culprits brought to book.

Haba! After putting in much to give himself a good life and to also impart knowledge into young ones, some idiots just snuffed out his life!

We pray to see the faces of the useless evil doers soon.

Me too. There is a huge Fulani presence on that road.
Nb: just learnt it was a kidnaping incident. Heard he stopped at a joint, the owner was being kidnapped, they decided to take him along. He resisted and was shot.

Imagine a very learned and erudite academic who is well travelled and a legal luminary just killed by some louts who has never and who will never get the opportunity to even leave the shores of Africa. People who probably cannot read and write but know how to pull the trigger and how to swing the machetes.

I am really worried about Nigeria.
