Did Peter Obi REALLY Say That Education Was Not For The Poor? by Reflect7: 3:13pm On Apr 25 |
I keep hearing that Peter Obi said during his tenure as governor of Anambra state, that Education was not meant for poor people. Did he really say this?? Please tell me he didn’t say it. Because I can’t believe that this would be the VERY SAME MAN TODAY, that is starting a CHALLENGE for Education. In fact this level of brazen hypocrisy is one of the biggest problems we are having in this country. I must caution Mr Obi to desist from such two-faced behaviour, and comport himself in a more honest manner. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Reflect7:Ok. It has now shifted from building new schools to an alleged statement seeming to support education for only the rich. You will fail flat on your face once again. He who God has blessed, no idiot can curse. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Look, gentlemen, while there is nothing wrong with a man changing or altering his beliefs over a particular issue, it’s usually done by the person explaining his transition from the old ideology to the new one. But in Obi’s case, no reason is given for the sudden transformation. It’s worrisome because it suggests that his presidential ambition has driven his recent ‘conversion’ to full public access to education, and other social programmes, such as water access, for which his much-maligned modest borehole donation up north, is a quirky reminder. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Reflect7: AM not an obident or tinubu or atiku supporter. But of a truth, education is very very expensive, good quality education. Most of us in Nigeria think that good quality education in oversease, they pay for it from their pocket. The harsh truth is...they do not. They pay for it from 1. LOANS: USA, UK, Japan and some other countries. 2.TAXES: Germany, denmark and Sweden Here in NIgeria we did subsidsied education, very heavily subsidised. And initally, it worked because universites used to have very few numbers of students (my old university in the early 1970's had less than 3000 students, postgrads included. Class sizes could be as low as 20-30 students. I ain't joking). But our populaiton grew, and the universites also grew...but the problem was, subsidising education meant unis cannot raise fees to pay for a host of things. Add the fact that taxation is low in Nigeria (less than 20% of our national income comes from tax, and we still ain't taxing our GDP as we should). So, we get shit education. I recall when Obi made the comment, and it was made i believe when he raised fees for tertiary institutions in the state. Because the problem was that many of those schools could not survive on the fees that they were earning at the time. People complained, Obi told them education is not for the poor. Harsh, and insensitive, but still correct. There is a reason why Tinubu is bringing in student loans. University is godawful expensive. We have been lying to ourselves that fees less than 100 dollars per annum can pay for first class education, and a budget less than 1-3 billion dollars...which does not go to universites alone, but to other sections...can give us good education. The harsh truth is, it can't.....so loans and allowing unis to raise fees, as the APC government wants to do is a way forward. Another way is to tax every taxable Nigerian half their income. That is what the Danes do. That is how they can afford free educaiton from the cradle to the grave over there. You know how Nigerians will respond. The old model of finding as many raw materials to sell does not work anymore. OIl is struggling to reach 90 dollars per barrel, talkless of the 120-30 that we need it to be before we can get a balanced budget self. Going industrial is the way, but it would take a generation or two of sustained effort before we reap the benefits. God knows the truth of the matter is, university is expensive. Obi said it, tinubu is agreeing. Atiku too charges high fees for his university....if he charged N10000 fees for helping the poor, he won't be able to pay lecturers or staff nada. |

nairalanda1: OBIDIENTs are the ones creating enemies for Obi they criticize everything done by every opposition just to sell their candidate. If it was another candidate that said this you’ll hear all manner of things. You saw all what happened during the elections didn’t you ? 1) they criticize el Rufai for his son being a house rep member said his father used his influence to make him .( this year Obi son turned out to be gay they didn’t blame Obi for his son’s orientation. 2) they insulted SanWo olu for completing Ambrose’s project that he should’ve done his own ( yesterday Obi confirmed he didn’t build a single school for 8 yrs he only renovated the old ones . 2027’ will be DOA for them their arrogance towards everyone who’s not in Obi’s camp will backfire. Election is over , Obi’s PR team are no longer engaged, their image has been battered when OBIDIENTs tried to meddled with Edo politics . during last year’s election I told them one thing , vote your candidate in peace let me vote mine, Obi is not NOI or Akinwunmi Adeshina with credible profile . Obi is just a an average governor don’t bully me to support him but they did otherwise ever since then I detest their movement. The “ Andrew liver salt “ has settled. 9 Likes |

Reflect7: Yeah, it's the same argument. I knows you guys don't agree with me, but the only way to get good electricity or free education is to allow both sectors, or companies, or whatever, charge the amount they need to give us world class service. Or we raise the percentage of our income from tax...ie the national income for budgets and stuff like that, from 20% to 80% Like sane countries do. Our budget is not enough for 220 million people. The annoying thing is that we even have people at all levels, leaders included , who effing know that, and STILL STEAL FROM THE THING. But even without stealing, it isn't enough. You want good universites, secondary schools, etc...you need money. Lotsa money. It's very easy to build universities, but to keep them running and expanding them, costs money. The univerisity I attended is still not finished with expanding, and they need a lot of money for the phase 2 expansion...and they are still struggling to keep up the university running well. And we still have to fight corruption. It has to end. But even then, sadly , things cost money. It's either we charge high fees, or we charge high taxes. Looks like with the APC Initiative on loans, its high fees for now. 1 Like |

Peter Obi gave his best to education. Just go and check out the statistics, before he became Governor and when he was there. Obi does not joke with education. No single school in Anambra that did not benefit. Schools in Anambra came back to life because of PO 1 Like

Formal learning other wise known as Education is very important for everyone to acquire regardless of your financial status in life, religion, tradition, gender etc In 2012, when Peter Obi was the governor of Anambra State, he increased the tuition fee of Anambra State University (ANSU) to an amount that became too difficult for parents to pay. Before he increased the school fees, he said “Education in Anambra state is not meant for the poor”. Education Is Not For The Poor – Peter Obi On School Fees Hike in 2006 and 2012 |

Reflect7: Nigerian Politicians can never do something like this. They are too evil and at the same time too ignorant to implement such policies. Nigeria is a joke 😂😂. It’s a make believe country. It’s A very poor country with a largely illiterate, uneducated, barbaric and violent populace. It cannot be saved. |

Dear Reno Please quote and explain to us how you could afford the lifestyle you currently live. How did you make the money you used to buy US and UK houses and a fleet of classic cars, marry a foreign wife, and sustain a family abroad? The only known history of your employment is being a former aide to the former vice president AA and President Jo. Let's peg your salary in those positions to N250,000 per month. Multiplying N250,000x12X16 years gives N48,000,000. N48,000,000 is not enough to buy one of the classic cars you flaunted on you FB page some time ago. Are you a covert public funds looter deceiving your followers as a righteous pastor? Please kindly elaborate on these as you usually do. |
