If you see 6, you can call it 9 when you turned it upside down.

It depends on the way you see it.

If you say your course is useless, it will be useless in your hands but if you look for opportunities and believe it is not useless then it will be very profitable to you.

No it's not. Thanks to banks and their graduate trainee programs. They admit any course so far you meet their requirements.

Sadly, you left out the field of occupational therapy. We are barely 2, 000 practictios serving the country presently. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occupational_therapist
I'm just getting to know this, chief.
Great, thanks. Here's one more course for you jambitos.
Meanwhile, Hakym, could you list the schools that offer it?

Quacks mean people who are not trained and licensed as doctors, unless you don't know the meaning of quacks.

How does that make the course itself useless??
They would have been licensed if the course wasn't useless.

If I mention them, you will think I'm going haywire but I'm somewhat correct cool

The courses are...

Medicine and Surgery

Pharmacy

Law

Engineering (especially Mechanical)

Computer Science

Note: the question said in Nigeria

And some others that I can't remember now. Those courses eh, you will think after graduation, money will be flowing because to many studying those course they think they are always sought after grin, the labour market is entirely a different story especially here in Nigeria, without connection or enough capital to start up for yourself, you will just be seeing yourself jumping from one office to the other looking for the firm or company that will at least top even 2k to your current salary so that you will move grin ๐Ÿ˜‚

I still prefer IT related course. If you know what you want in life, you will go far. The only problem we have in this country is too much believe we have on certificates.. in fact any course is good just know what you want to do in life. Na Economics, Accounting or business admin Dangote read to be successful? Left matter for Matthias

Wow! Thank you for this. I know about some of this before anyway, I just wanted your opinion because I was shocked when I got that comment.

Anyway, I'm currently studying psychology in Unilag, in my 2nd year. What advice do you have for me?

Thank you.

Make effort and graduate with at least Second Class upper, then you can apply and likely be eligible to be granted the Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society (GMBPsS), I already have it

With it , you can use it to also get the graduate membership of Psychological Society of Ireland. With these graduate memberships, you will be qualified to apply to work as an Assistant Psychologist in the UK and Ireland

Know the pathway you have preference for... Clinical, Counselling, Sports, Education, Health, Forensic, Military etc then hone your interest around it. From my undergrad level, I had interest in how the minds of children work, reason I did my Msc. In Clinical Child Psychology

Don't mind the guy. christejames doesn't know what he just wrote. No STEM course is useless.

For him to have included those stem courses in the least of useless course to study means he really doesn't know their potentials.

You're such a silly gnorant boy who doesn't know anything.

Why would people who didn't study the course be licensed?

I told you quacks are people who didn't pass through training and are not licensed, yet you couldn't still understand.

A quack doctor is a fake doctor who didn't study medicine and doesn't have a license.
That's different from an incompetent or inexperienced doctor.

Most of you just use words without bothering to know the meaning.

No course is useless, it is just the way you see it. Botany graduates dey follow work for bank these days o sad
The course can still be useless.
At the end of the day, the only reason you are going to university is because
there is legal requirement from employers to hire graduates with NYSC certificate.
You can't get the NYSC certificate if you do not go to UNI or Poly.
Nigerians just waste their time in University score whatever result, get degree then NYSC certificate
then beg for any job that doesn't concern their degree course.
-
But their overseas counterparts, go STRAIGHT to job and work as intern, part time staff or labour.
From the job, they then decide whether to study a course that has anything to do with THAT particular job.
Any time you discuss with your agemate, they already have 10 years work experience.

You see that mechanical engineering own no be lie.
Students graduate without any meaningful skills.
Not properly regulated
It makes most of them unemployable

[Things are upside down in Nigeria.
Courses and professions that are valueless in Nigeria are highly valued abroad
Eg Special Education, Guidance and Counselling etc
quote author=franchasofficia post=129700023]Marketing
Law
Sociology
Microbiology
Biochemistry
Guidance and Counseling
Political Science
Botany
Zoology
Forestry
Geology
Polymer and Textile
Meth Math

Business Admin
Banking and Finance
Mass Communication
Library Science
Physical Education
Fine Arts
Theater Art
Music
Industrial Chemistry
Petroleum Engineering
Petrochemical Engineering
Mining Engineering
Soil Science
Agric Extension
Health Education
Food and Nutrition Science
International Relations

Please don't let any of your siblings study any of the aforementioned courses in this era, they are better rewriting JAMB or learning digital skills than going to higher institution to waste time and resources, and if by mistake you allow them study any of these outdated generic courses, then prepare to support them with learning trade or starting a small scale business after graduation.

Some courses ought to be scraped in Nigeria. NUC/NBTE and Ministry of Education ought to revisit our tertiary education curriculum and remove a lot of outdated courses from there and replace them with current trends that can produce graduates that will solve current global challenges.

To buttress the points of Frsnchasofficia, my Yoruba people, if you're in the Art/Commercial departments, don't slack on language courses like German, Spanish, Mandarin, and Hindi. Study diploma in them, understand them well using Duolingo or so, be fluent and become relevant. The first two can take you overseas easily and but the last two! Oluwa o! Those Asian expatriates will be flocking around you like flies, with good pay like some I know.
