I respect Chinua Achebe more, just saying

That question has nothing to do with tribalism. A true reader will see there is more to it than tribalism. Mind you I am not a Nigerian but hate the way a lot of people out there always attribute tribalism to a lot of things. Personally I will go for Chinua Achebe. His works are simple and can be read by lots of people. I think Woye Syinka is more of a Poet. Things fall part, No longer at Ease, A man of people are three of his must read. There is also Elechi Amadi, I only read one of his novels, The concubine. Lovely African piece.

Both are great writers.. Achebe is a born storyteller, he tells is story in such an appealing way that the reader find simple and understandable. Wole soyinka is an experimentalist, he tries new things with new style, he has done almost everything he needs to do.. Wat seperate them both is dat Achebe write 4 writing sake but soyinka write to drive home a message.. After writing, soyinka 'do the talk'. Dats d difference.. Am an igbo by the way so dis is nt tribalistic

As far as story telling, as a detribalized person, to me it's not even close. It's Achebe by a mile. Then 2 or 3 others b4 Soyinka.

Soyinka is more a fearless activist than a born story teler

As far as personality, Soyinka is, of course, our country's greatest writer.
