Im sure this not too old man may have died as a result of the proposed removal of subsidy, having occupied his mind on how he intends to mobilize Nigerians against same. RIP sir. God will judge all of them.

Proponent of march against subsidy withdrawal dies

Written by Success Nwogu

The National Chairman of the Action Alliance, Senator Suleiman Salawu, who last month, threatened to mobilise three million registered members of his party to protest against removal of fuel subsidy is dead.

He was aged about 65. He died on Friday and was buried on Saturday according to Islamic rites.

He was also a member of the Yoruba Council of Elders. Salawu died at a hospital in his country home of Offa in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State.

A source close to his family who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to journalists, said the deceased reportedly suffered a heart attack on Friday morning at his residence in Offa and was rushed to the hospital where he died.

The source said Salawu was about to drink a cup of tea when he suffered the attack. Salawu was a senator in the Second Republic on the ticket of the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria, for three months, between October and December 1983, before the military coup led by generals Mohammadu Buhari and Babatunde Idiagbon ousted them.

He was a chieftain of the defunct Social Democratic Party, Congress for National Conscience, and the All Peoples Party, which later changed its name to All Nigerian Peoples Party. In 2007, he joined forces with the Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha to form the Action Alliance where he later emerged the national chairman.
