LAGOS (AFP) – A bomb was thrown into an Arabic school in mainly Christian southern Nigeria, wounding at least seven, police said Wednesday, after Christmas attacks sparked fears of sectarian violence in the country.

“A locally made low-capacity explosive was thrown into an Arabic school in Sapele at 10:00 pm yesterday,” said state police spokesman Charles Mouka.

“It was thrown from an unidentified moving car … Six children and one adult were wounded. They are receiving treatment in the hospital. No deaths were recorded and no arrests have been made.”

The children are between five and eight years old, he said. They had been at the school for night Arabic and Koranic lessons, said Mouka.

Christmas bombings occurred in several locations in Nigeria blamed on Islamist group Boko Haram that killed 40 people, with the deadliest an explosion outside a church near the capital Abuja as services were ending.

Nigerian leaders have been seeking to calm tensions amid fears the Christmas attacks could set off sectarian violence in a country roughly divided between a mainly Muslim north and predominately Christian south.

The area around the school, which has about 50 students, has been cordoned off, Mouka said.

“We have swept it clean and recovered unexploded bits of the explosives for investigation,” he said. “We are collaborating with other security agencies to ensure we do not have a repeat of the incident.”

This only seeks to bring muslims against Christians. Believe it or not this is exactly what some people want

Instead of following the line of terrorists Islamists, all Christians and other peace-loving Nigerians should join hands to defeat this evil called boko haram. This is exactly what the group has been expecting since they launched attacks on Churches in Borno, and now into the centre of the country. No matter the level of support boko haram is getting from the moslem population in the Kanuri/Hausa/Fulani axis, they can never overcome the collective will of peace-loving citizens all over the country. Sapele people should hold fire and join the ranks of those who desire to avoid revenge in the fight against these beasts in human forms!

The day that we in the East and South decide to start killing innocent Muslims who have been living in peace with us and doing their businesses legally, then Boko Haram has won and we are no better than them in any way.

I still maintain that in this case, retaliation is not the answer.

These repeated bombings have quelled any doubts I had about how monumental the foolishness of Nigerians is.
Why can't those who are fighting and killing innocent Nigerians direct their anger towards the people in power who have pillaged and robbed them of what is rightfully theirs and who are now presently working behind the scenes to make sure we never enjoy peace?
Instead they take their frustrations out on their fellow innocent Nigerians that have done nothing to them.

Retaliation is never the answer

i suspect its just a fight amongst themselves.

Gradually this is beginning to look like religion or tribal war looming over Nigeria. At when the government of the day will start to take the bull by the horn ? It's better for the government to start their heavy deployment of the Nigeria armed Forces to counter BH insurgency or Give the Job to capable forces like USA Armed Forces or NATO or ISAF to do to save the nation from the brink of heavy civil unrest or face the consequences. Anything that make this BH terrorist Hit SS, SW, SE with this their cowardly act will mean the end of the nation call Nigeria is imminent.

The chances of this is very slim., its purely retaliation in the wrong place.

It this was done by a christian then it is a true act of cowardice. We christians are suppose to show more intelligence, Why take it on innocent kids age 5-8? Why throw in an unsofisticated bomb? Doesnt that show we cant fight back? Or we dont have the mechinery to fight back? However it could also have been done by the Boko haram sect( note this is not a fight between christians and moslems, its a fight between an islamic sect and the gorvernment/christians consequently). They could want to tell the world that the christians are fighting back, a similar scenerio happened doing the post election crisis in zamfara, where some moslems were caught in an attempt to set a central mosque on fire, to justify their reason of attack. Whatever this act of bombing is inhuman and highly condemnable.

Setting up a bomb is not like pulling a trigger. You have to be trained and really know your stuff to carry them around like they are being done currently. The idea that this current bombing is a retaliatory attack is both funny and annoying. Look deeper

The people's intension was not to kill any one by just throwin some knockout at the children.  
I think dis is just the hand work of the boko haram in that area to cos more confusion in dis country.
