President Yaradua - The Messiah? by texbiano(m): 4:23pm On Oct 04, 2007 |
I turned 29 in July and I don’t like politics. I never did. But I am a patriot. Over the years the ugly scenes we see on TV and hear in the news of our leaders’ indifference, and indeed the palpable helplessness of the ordinary Nigerian have created a certain feeling of numbness in me. I am pissed off at any attempt to raise issues pertaining to government and governance. But, suddenly, there is an insurmountable urge in me to discuss politics, government. Why, you might ask. When President Musa Yaradua was sworn-in as president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in May, I thought, and I believe I was not alone, that it was going to be business as usual. Just over 100 days, and I am suddenly beginning to feel like the proud son of a famous and wealthy father. My psyche has changed inexplicably. President Yaradua in my view, and only a little over a hundred days into his administration, has demonstrated that he is going to be the very best president Nigeria has ever had. I do not want to start counting his achievements but I just want to say that his being able to make a positive change in the consciousness of Nigerians like me is a great feat indeed. I always tell anyone who cares to listen that I personally offered fervent prayers for the Golden Eaglets to win the Trophy and present to our able leader. It’s the least we can offer him. I am so proud of him. Everyday I pray that God grant him the wisdom to lead this country back to greatness. One thing I am certain about is that he, Yaradua, has a good heart and means well for Nigeria. God bless Nigeria. |
